Saving Their Pets

I would like to publicly thank Barb Shepherd, director of operations for Animal Advocates of Moore County, and Karen Moyer for helping the Red Cross in Sanford deliver dog and cat food to victims of the tornado.

Many elderly people have refused to go to a shelter without their pets. The new PetSense store in Sanford donated truckloads of pet food, which was transported by the Red Cross and Animal Advocates to a facility for pickup.

This situation reminds us of Katrina, when families risked their lives to save their pets. Some Lee County residents insist on staying outside with their pets rather than seek shelter. They fear their pets will wander off in search of food or water and be lost to them forever. Thank you, PetSense, for your generosity.

Yes. I too was heartened by the response of Animal Advocates. A glimmer of good news in day of sadness. As an animal lover and owner of 3 pets I know how important my pets are to me and can't imagine how much more stressful it was for people who lost their pets in the turmoil. I hope they are now all accounted for and safely home. God bless AAMC
