Moore County's tea party group is hoping for a large crowd to attend its Tax Day rally April 15.

This will be the third year that the group has held an event in front of the Southern Pines post office.

Two years ago, an estimated crowd of 1,000 supporters attended the rally. Last year, that number dipped to about half, said Dee Park, Moore TEA Citizens coordinator.

"We have greater strength when we are together," Park said. "We invite everyone to come and we want everyone to wear red, white and blue and bring signs telling our legislators to cut expenses and balance the budget."

The Tax Day event will last from 4 to 7 p.m. It will be the 17th rally or event Moore TEA Citizens has taken part in since January.

Last year, some members of the Moore tea party group went to Washington, D.C., for a rally, which organizers say hurt attendance at the local event.

Tea party groups are all right with tax cuts until it affects them. If you they are so concerned about tax cuts then they would want corporations to pay more than they do into the system.

TEA Dee and her group should start by sending back their Medicare cards, and return their Social Security checks. That would be a grand beginning and save billions while providing extended unemployment benefits for the unemployed who have no insurance. Perhaps The Pilot could report on the number of retirees who burn their Medicare cards....Do they care that thousands of North Carolinians will no longer receive extended benefits after April 16th...I think not. The Republicans at work to surpress the unemployed and poor. Housing foreclosures will be the next economic crisis that the President will have to sort out. What WAS your home worth?

And, they don't care enough to get involved in the over taxing of people right in Moore County. Things like the Moore County Telecom Tax on cell phones and cable bills should catch attention. What's next?

I will do my very best to file my taxes on the 14th to miss this pitiful excuse of a crowd that i want no part of! i mean really it is sad thing to watch. meaning i ran into this crowd last yr at the post office and i was so irritated when i left, felt like running my car through crowd while they shouted their angry agenda at everyone that came by . but of course i did not want to be arrested so did not. .

Howdy James,

The period goes inside the quotes: "crazy." "economics."

You're correct with "What are taxes?" from an earlier post.

Also, They are "so silly" should be They're.

Go Bears.

Thanks for letting us know the day to avoid the Southern Pines Post Office! I'll do my business on the 14th and not spend money in downtown the 15th from 4-7pm because there won't be any parking spaces due to this nonsense.

0

AM910 2 years, 1 month ago

What part of "won't be any parking spaces" do you not understand? Are you related to Palin?

0

moonchild7 2 years, 1 month ago

James, what are you talking about? 'These are the folks that pay for all your nonsense. They are done paying." Taxes?! I've paid and continue to pay my taxes and also my way through this life. Back in the 70's things were quite tough but I worked and paid CASH for my college education. Ate a LOT of hamburger helper, spent cold nights when I couldn't afford the oil for the furnace and never had a new car. Never could get any Mortgage to buy a house anywhere so I had to save and save and save, build the house piece by piece as the money was saved and complete it by saving and saving and saving more so as to pay CASH for everything, so don't you tell me about THOSE people paying for my ANYTHING! Those look like the kind of people who would NEVER approve me for a MORTGAGE because I "tended" to have long hair, wear bell-bottomed jeans and, had NO CREDIT HISTORY because I paid for everything in cash. NO CREDIT CARDS EITHER. DON"T you tell me about people like that because as far as I'm concerned those people haven't paid enough for their backwards thinking.

Liberal dictionary:hard working achiever wants to keep a little more of his paycheck=greedy. Person who never applied self in school, shunned higher education-free for many low income who year after year is supported by the government paying no income taxes while infact getting an annual welfare check (EIC)="the less fortunate".

The rats on the boats spread the disease. Looks like the ships are carrying vectors; need to burn the wharfs. That is in no way a reference to throwing tea into a bay. Please enroll in critical thinking skills before engaging mouth/political party rhetoric/ etc Everyone I know wants less government , but want llaws to enforce it. Huh? Double speak! If you can't agree to disagree then you are just part of the problem. Ugh! Political parties are horrid! Let's just move on to a solution please.

Moonchild, STEP AWAY FROM THE BONG. "Everyone in that picture looks like they receive either Social Security, Medicare or both." I'm the 48 year old Independent Business owner (in the shades w/ the sign) Who believes the Constitution was not a suggestion. I believe our Fore Fathers would be ashamed of us and what we have done with what God has given us.(Our Great Nation) I do not receive Social Security or Medicare. I do however have kids that I don't want to leave with a mountain of debt and a Government that controls every aspect of their lives. I feel the Tea Party with it's flaws may be the best chance we have to change the course of our Nation. The Republicans and the Democrats have failed us miserably. I could go on here but with Hank and Moonchild, I feel I would be wasting my time.

Dollar short and a day late brother. Should have stepped in front of Dub's boat when it was leaving the harbor in 2000. obama is just trying to fix what will take 20 years to undo. It all goes back to Bush. No question about it. Cutting spending and raising taxes in a recession leads to a depression. See US great depression and the lost decade in Japan for case studies.

1

None 2 years, 1 month ago

Hank - drinking the kool aid again. Obama not interested in "fixing" anything. He built a $3T deficit in two years after Pelosi and Reid passed $2T in deficits since taking charge in 2006 of Congress.

"No child left a dime" and now you can add to your sign, nor provided an education thanks to John Boehner and the Republican Congress. Shouldn't you folks be spending time trying to figure out where the money for schools will come from, as opposed to trying to reduce more funding for classrooms? TEA party wingnuts [thanks dr jr.] have "their" savings for states' educational systems. What's next, free meals for the homeless? How about Kevorkian's Health Care Solutions to deal with the uninsured and unemployed? Our Great Nation - left in a mess by George W. Bush and his Wars and financial mismanagement.

Yeah, you gotta love all the people screaming "What about our cheeeeeldren" and then voting for people whose first step in a budget criss is to cut education.

DR Jr. ~ I'm having to do a "think check" to figure out if we see issues through the same pair of lenses. I wonder what Lindsey Graham has to say about education cuts? Another good Re-pub....bring your own paper and pencil to school if ya'll want an edu-ma-cation!

Sorry Stanley10 but for the sake of my argument I just had to throw you into the mix with those other "old fogies". So, instead I'll just call you a "misguided youth" mixing it up with the WRONG crowd. Those BONG days are long gone Stanley, It's been all REALITY since 1977 and of course from here on out, baby. Does this look familiar? "....establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of Liberty to ourselves and posterity...." There's a LOT of "TOGETHERNESS" in that Preamble to our Constitution that the TEAPOTS seem to glaze over for their own very selfish needs. My son completed college and received his masters last year and it's all, already paid for. He "learned" the value of working hard to achieve his dreams from me and my "less than fun experiences" with the people in control. He started his own small business in college and worked it! He worked 3-4 jobs the past three years to have his Masters totally paid for when he graduated(it cost him $25,000). His Mom was a Professional Social Worker so he learned the excellent human values of helping those in need. So, Stanley tell your kids that the future looks great as long as ALL OF US work TOGETHER to make it so.

The Tea Party elects conservative African Americans and Hispanic Americans. Say it with me..."Allen West and Marco Rubio"..."Allen West and Marco Rubio".... Liberals see everything through the prism of race. Conservatives don't care about race. We care about individual liberty and freedom. Nice try on the race card, though.

LOL.... I just did a spit take......Be careful Pinocchio, your nose is growing... check out the study done recently by the University of Washington... http://depts.washington.edu/uwiser/racepolitics.html.. Of course I know full well that you will slam this as partisan, and come up with every excuse known to man that it's a sham... So put all the excuses you want out...Of course it's true that it's only one study... I'll be anxious to see other studies too... I'm sure Fox news has it's own polls to "refutiate" anything....So no matter what rebuttal you come up with I can "refutiate" it.. and you can do the same... It's like nuclear war, nobody wins...

tallsteve8609 April 5, 2011 at 12:08 p.m. Well Steve the TEA Activists are winning. Have you seen the cuts to education lately? Teachers will be losing their jobs, classrooms will be retoactive to the days of 30 plus students to a class - an no teacher aides. Lee County Schools are considering doing away with all sports to save money. The Arts have taken a hit, so what does the TEA Activist want next? Another George Bush? Wall Street Exe's are now receiving their million dollar bonuses that they don't have to pay taxes on after paying the taxpayers back for the loan. Dig in Pal.

MikeNC 2 years, 1 month ago

@ Moonchild. You indicate that any of the retirees, who is a protester of our $14Trillion dollar debt, should burn their SS & Medicade cards. Well, I guess the same argument could be made for Liberals who make over $250,000 and were against the Bush Tax Credit Extension, and did not go ahead and pay their additional 4.5% tax increase, and put their money where their mouths were.

These old timers you see in the picture have been paying into social security for over 60 +years. It was President Johnson who broke the lock on SS box with none other than Al Gore being the tie breaker in the vote to do so. The Democratic party created this mess and as usual hide their heads in the sand and ignore the nightmare we face now.

What part of Social Security and Medicare are bankrupt does not anyone here understand? When Social Security came about, no one calculated that as time went on people would live longer, nor the poplulation grow the way it has, and a majority of it happening after WWII, the baby boomers.
Paul Ryan will be unveiling his budget proposal plans this week and he has come up with some unstanding solutions, TO INCLUDE THE EVIL RICH PAYING MORE INTO SOCIAL SECURITY. It's a pity the Democrats have put our people into a situation that they will have to all anty up, when it wasn't their fault. Diane

0

None 2 years, 1 month ago

Paul Ryan wants to lower the tax rate for individuals and corporations to 25%. He wants to decimate medicare and medicaid. He doesn't want to take any money away from the Defense Dept. There's something WRONG with that! The Budget needs fixing, it doesn't need to continue to help the rich and powerful who are still doing very well, but throws all the rest of us into the trash can! Just because you might be rich doesn't give you the right to a more decent life than those who have very little. We've had three Republican Presidents since 1968 who served two terms each and two who served one term and one about 1/2 term(Ford). Clinton served two terms, Carter one and Obama 1/2 a term. I see that as the most compelling part of the argument is that all of the HORRORS we've been experiencing with our country is right at the feet of RIGHTWINGNUTS!!!!! ....and they LOVE the MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX who must have an adjacent oval office with guns held to the heads of any Democrat who won't give them everything they want. Ronald Reagan first and foremost is responsible for our HORRIFIC DOWNTURN. He said that Government was the problem, so that's why it's being TRASHED.

0

None 2 years, 1 month ago

Reagan was right: government is the problem.

0

None 2 years, 1 month ago

I have to agree ~ James. Its been a problem since the $500.00 hammers and $3,000.00 toilet seats for astronaunts to sit their golden a$$es on while in space. Let's not talk about the million dollar space ink pen that writes upside down...hint: those dumb Russians used a 5 cent #2 pencil! Just shows how smart they were! Our government has pi$$ed away quad-drillions on pork over the years and no one held them accountable. TEA Activists are about 50 years too late. Now they blame everything on POTUS'O.

0

None 2 years, 1 month ago

Yet the left blame all the current financial conditions on Bush. Thanks Toda for pointing out that the problems started long ago.

Another great opportunity for Congressman Howard Coble to make an appearance ~ hopefully he can find his way to the platform to speak. Not one of the TEA Party Activist has said they intend to burn their Medicare Cards - recall they oppose health care for all Americans - or send their Social Security checks back to the Treasury Department. As long as they get theirs, they could care less about everyone else. At the GOP Picnic held last year, not one of the Blow Hards made one comment about receiving Federal Stimulus money for new water infrastructure and lift stations around Pinehurst Lake. Wonder why? When questioned about receiving stimulus funds, "well someone will get it, why not us"? Hopefully they will need some more Obama money to keep the schools open ~ but wait ~ they don't have children in school here in Poorer County. Go TEA DEE!

0

SouthernShooter 2 years, 1 month ago

Those silly teabaggers actually believe the government shouldn't spend more than it takes from the tax payers. Those idiots! Everybody knows it's perfectly fine to spend all one's money, that's what credit is for. If by chance one runs out of credit, one simply asks for a higher limit.
Besides if the government actually runs out of money, I heard Obama has a stash.

0

MikeNC 2 years, 1 month ago

Moonchild, do you even think before you post? You throw these accusations out there and don't even know if they are true or not. Have you been to my home? Have you had access to my tax records or bank account, to make the statement, that I am rich?

Yeh, what's WRONG with lowering the tax rate on ALL OF US? And your medicaid/ medicare statement? His plan is WONDERFUL !! It will give a variety of plans low income families can choose from, and will also include government assistance with them.

Reagan got this country out of a bad recession, a heck of alot faster and this country witenessed unprecedented growth a whole lot faster than we are seeing with Obama & company.

Little did we all know, until you told us, that the military is running the show. Now we can do without elections and have a juanta run the government.

Moonchild, me thinks you are a hopeless romantic marxist/ socialist.

Ronald Reagan wanted NOTHING to do with the "COMMIE-PINKO" Medicare Program that was being readied for a vote in Congress back in the 1960's. It was that domino theory of we'll go down the drain to Socialism if it's approved. Gee, it's over 50 yrs later and? No Communism here, we are still BIG TIME CAPITALISTS the last time I looked. I guess Congressman Ryan wants to fulfill Reagan's DREAM of expunging the OLD and DISABLED from the governments overflowing coffers, so the Bankers and Defense Contractors can have it all instead. I am NOT speaking about you MikeNC being rich. I have no idea about your financial situation. It's the overall WEALTH CLASS that is getting larger by the day. The WARRING BANKER JUANTA CLASS is well intrenched it seems within our government. They got their foot in the door after JFK was assasinated and moved right in with NIXON. Not hopeless, just very well convinced. Case closed.

0

Oh gee. I didn't spell check MikeNC, it's a JUNTA. And before I go, Greentara13 the solutions are there to be implemented but no one has the courage. Do away with FOR PROFIT HEALTH CARE, tax the rich a COMPLETE 35%, and make sure our corporations work for AMERICA instead of only their BULGING MONEY FILLED pockets.

0

Why penalize someone for suceeding.

0

None 2 years, 1 month ago

moonchild7 ~ according to 60 minutes hundreds of major corporations are moving offshore because of having to pay taxes here in America. Shame that the middle class is taxed before receiving their meager earnings. Those 3% of the most wealthy who still reside or have an address here, have tax attorneys to make contributions to their elected officials for tax loop holes in a tax code that the IRS doesn't understand. Ever wonder why Congressman Howard Coble is so opposed to a Fair Tax? http://www.fairtax.org Republicans represent the wealthy if one didn't know.

From the Joint Economic Committee Economic Update 1995: "The Reagan expansion years marked a period of economic progress for middle class Americans. Middle class income increased 11 percent after adjustment for inflation, while nearly 20 million new jobs were created."

Good Grief, Moonchild, Money for Medicare will be collected by the Feds. IT then will be distributed to the states. Each state knows it needs better than the Feds as how to implement their Medicare.

PS, You also have given us all a reason that Capitalism is working, because you indicated the wealty class is growing by the day. That's a good thing. Only in America.

The Budget spent on defense is 20%. 58% is spent on Medicare, S S, and Safety Net programs that coincide with both Medicare and Social Security to fill in their gaps.
