U.P Netters Get Big CFVC Win

The Union Pines volleyball team started the second leg of its Cape Fear Valley Conference campaign with a four-set victory at home against the Overhills Jaguars Tuesday.
With the win Union Pines (10-5, 5-2) is now tied for second in the league standings with Overhills (10-4, 5-2). Western Harnett is still alone atop the CFV standings with a conference mark of 7-0.
In a youth movement, the Vikings got big time production from freshman Tiffany Hicks and sophomores Brittany Erikson and Tyler Ross in Tuesday’s 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 25-19 win.
Hicks had eight kills, and five blocks, while Erickson led Union Pines in serving with six aces along with a team-high 12 digs. On the night Ross tallied seven kills, four aces, four digs and three blocks.
It was the Vikings fourth straight CFVC win. Union Pines closed out last week with a convincing with 25-17, 25-11, 25-15 home victory against league foe Douglas Byrd.
Union Pines is back in CFVC action Thursday when they host Gray’s Creek (4-12, 3-3) at 5:30 p.m.
