Making a Difference One Life at a Time

I suppose most of us have had dreams of doing something completely outrageous, scary, exciting, out of character or just crazy. I also guess that, like me, you have wanted to do something really significant and meaningful, just once, to make a difference in someone's life.

This letter is about three friends who have made the decision to do more than just dream. I invite you to go the Internet and see for yourselves what three brave and courageous local men have been doing since Sept. 2 to realize their dream of doing something really special for an organization that changes lives - Sandhills Teen Challenge.

Don Grimsley, David Peterson and Randy Dykes are making the trip at their own expense to raise money for Teen Challenge, an organization that changes lives, one life at a time. When one life has been changed, whole families and even communities are impacted as well as generations that follow.

Don, Dave and Randy left Southern Pines on Sept. 2 heading to Oregon on dual-sport motorcycles. They are not cruising on open road but doing the entire 5,200 miles off road. I could describe some of the exciting and dangerous difficulties these men have encountered, but see for yourselves at letfreedomride.org. They are documenting events with blogs, pictures and videos. You'll be impressed with the pictures and descriptions of our beautiful country - 13,000-foot peaks in Colorado to the sea level desert floor in Nevada.

If you want to be a vicarious part of this trek and make a difference, you can by giving a penny, nickel or dime per mile, all of which goes to changing lives through Sandhills Teen Challenge, P.O. Box 1701, Southern Pines, NC 28388.
