The students of Gail's Music Studio, located on May Street in Southern Pines, participated in collecting "computer points" for their summer contest.

Each student earned two points for each song they got checked off and five points if the song was memorized.

Gail Summers, owner of GMS, announces the winner is Hope DeSpain, 8-year-old daughter of Craig and Claire DeSpain, of Pinebluff. She earned more than 65 points, by memorizing nearly every one of her songs. Her prize is a trip to Chuck E. Cheese in Fayetteville.

Second place went to Joseph (JZ) Brecher, age 7, son of Joe and Dalija Brecher, of Carthage, with 36 points. Third place went to Mary Catherine Gualteros, 12-year-old daughter of Oscar and Barbara Gualteros, of Pinehurst, with 25 points.

Gail's Music Studio has a digital piano for students to play that is connected to a program where they can see what they play being printed onto the computer screen. In addition, there are also CDs and music movies that can be checked out along with many board and card music games to help reinforce theory in a fun way.

The computer has music games, and each of the 12 participating summer students will be able to use their "computer points" during their lesson time to play the computer games in lieu of their regular piano lesson.
