The North Carolina Senior Citizens Association (NCSCA) will sponsor an educational workshop, "Medi-care Supplement Alert," Tuesday at the Hampton Inn Hotel in Aberdeen.

The workshop will be conducted by Jason Sutton, a local elder law attorney.

A newly enacted federal law that became effective June 1 has dramatically lowered the pricing on all Medicare supplement insurance plans in North Carolina, allowing many seniors to reduce the cost of their current Medicare supplement insurance premium, a news release said.

Many seniors can save $600-$800 on their Medicare supplement plan while enhancing their health insurance coverage, according to NCSCA. But if you are a senior with a Medicare supplement plan, you must find out for yourself how this new law allows you to reduce your premium, the release said. Seniors are not automatically notified by Medicare or their insurance company that they are entitled to the new lower pricing.

The workshop will provide the latest information on Medicare Parts A and B, as well as the recent modernization of Medicare supplement plans.

Sutton will also discuss how to reduce your Medicare supplement premiums, while simultaneously enhancing your current coverage.

"To make good decisions, you must have complete and accurate information," Sutton said. "This workshop is a great place to get the information you need." Workshop attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and will receive free materials to help them evaluate the new lower pricing on their individual health coverage.

Two workshops are scheduled Tuesday at the Hampton Inn at 200 Columbus Drive in Aberdeen, which is behind Best Buy, off U.S. 15-501. The first workshop begins at 10 a.m., and the second workshop begins at 2 p.m.

Seating is limited, with reservations on a first-come, first-served basis. To make a reservation, call the 24-hour, toll-free reservation hotline at (800) 621-4818.

NCSCA is a nonprofit membership organization, chartered by the state of North Carolina in 1977. NCSCA is not affiliated with the federal government or any state agency.
