The Silver Foils of Pinehurst held their summer luncheon on Aug. 24 at the Member’s Club. The highlight of the luncheon was an update on the LPGA-USGA local Girls Golf Program.
The Silver Foils have sponsored this popular program since it began in Pinehurst in 2006.
Karen Plankar is a Silver Foils member and currently heads up the Girls Golf Committee. Plankar introduced Janie Farina, LPGA professional at Little River Golf Club, who was the main speaker.
Farina explained the teaching methods used in the program and the importance of mentors to the girls. She has done an extraordinary job of building the program that currently has 35 girls participating.
Farina not only teaches young girls to play golf, but also emphasizes the opportunity to build lasting friendships, to experience competition and to have fun in a supportive environment.
Farina thanked the Silver Foils for their support and also the member volunteers who have been such a tremendous help in the success of the program.
Accompanying Farina to the luncheon were three girls from the program, Emily and Elaine Kearney and Courtney Herm. The young golfers participated in a question and answer discussion that was enjoyed by all.
The Silver Foils are proud of their continued support of the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf program and the opportunity it affords them to give something back to the game they enjoy so much.
