The Rooster's Wife brings words and music to Aberdeen with a pair of accomplished singer-songwriters, Sunday, Sept. 12.
Caleb Hawley always wanted to be a professional baseball player. However, he was not gifted with a strong arm and outstanding hand-eye coordination.
He was, however, dealt the gift of fast fingers and massive vocal chords. Hawley was a runner-up in the famed Telluride Troubadour songwriting competition in Colorado and will open the evening at 6:45 p.m.
A graduate of Berklee College of Music with a degree in jazz composition, Caleb Hawley has turned some heads with his choice to write and produce decidedly pop-influenced singer-songwriter music.
But his success is undeniable with top awards like the John Lennon Songwriting Contest ('09) and the New York Songwriter's Circle contest ('08, '09).He's a charming, soft-spoken guitar virtuoso with a great big voice that can sing just about anything.
After Hawley's performance, Chuck Brodsky, a down-to-earth musical storyteller who combines dry barb-witted social commentary with a deep underlying compassion, takes the stage.
He says that the best stories are the little things in the lives of everyday people trying to muddle through with some grace. His great gift as a writer is to infuse these stories with humanity and humor, making them resonate profoundly with his listeners.
His groove-oriented strumming and fingerpicking draw on influences from the mountains of western North Carolina where he now lives, and from lots of different good old traditional folk stuff of all kinds.
The Rooster's Wife presents words and music this fall, with an interesting array of genres, from singer songwriters to poetry readings, to full-on jazz , to fulfill the mission of creating and maintaining community through the arts in Moore County.
