Union Pines and East Montgomery played to a 2-2 draw in their nonconference soccer match Tuesday at Woodrow Wilhoit Stadium.
Senior captain Allen Cha scored both goals for the homestanding Vikes, who remain winless on the season with a record of 0-2-2.
Cha’s first goal came off a through pass from forward Brad Stout and gave Union Pines a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute of the tilt.
East Montgomery then scored two goals to take a 2-1 advantage into intermission.
Junior Michael Lindsey later provided an assist on Cha’s second-half goal, which proved to be the neutralizer.
According to Union Pines coach Jeremiah Johnson, Cha had a handful of fine looks at goal in the later stages of the contest. But he just missed out on both a hat trick and giving the Vikes a lead, as none of Cha’s shots could find the back of the net down the stretch.
Viking keepers P.J. Schmittdiel (9) and Austin Beers (5) each played a half, combining for 14 saves on the night.
With the draw, East Montgomery, the fourth-ranked team in the most current North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association 1-A poll, is now 4-0-1 on the year.
Union Pines hosts Hoke County at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Vikes’ last game before the start of the 3A Cape Fear Valley Conference season.
