Locals Compete in Jungle Run

The Pinecrest girls finished second and the Patriot boys came in third in the championship division of Saturday night’s Jungle Run held at South View High School.

Almost 900 runners competed under the lights in the three boys’ and three girls’ race divisions. Raleigh Millbrook won the girls’ title led by repeat winner Samantha George. Blake Williams of Northern Durham won the individual title for the boys while South View was the team champion.

Jennie Cunningham led Pinecrest with a sixth place time of 19:14. Alexa Zoellner (15th, 20:06), Hayden Rudd (22nd, 20:38), Mulloy Manning (29th, 21:03) and Sarah Pressley (32nd, 21:05) were the others contributing to the Patriot team total. George’s course record time was 18:11.

Connor Kelly was first in for the Pinecrest boys with an eighth place time of 16:22. He was followed in by teammates Landon Sherwood (14th, 16:33), Tyler Clark (18th, 16:42), Matthew Harmondy (48th, 17:24) and George Hayes (52nd, 17:30). Williams, another repeat champion, finished in 15:06, breaking the record of 15:16 set by Andy Wacker, of Pinecrest, in 2005.

Trevor Morris led a contingent of three runners from Union Pines (42nd, 17:18) that included Joseph Morris (61st, 17:38) and Dan Deardorff (78th, 17:54).

Pinecrest came in second to South View in the boys’ invitational race. Becket Killiam of the Patriots was third in 17:26. Also contributing to the Patriot point total were Jacob Troutman (9th, 17:52), Graham Hawes (16th, 18:18), Chris Kelly (22nd, 18:27) and Kwanza Ramsey (33rd, 18:45). Union Pines was represented in the race by Storm Jessup (66th in 19:35).

Brittany Stevens, of Union Pines, finished seventh in 21:20 in the girls’ invitational division. Teammate Brianna Stengle came in 50th with a time of 24:11.
