“We’ll try it again on Tuesday,” Pinecrest volleyball coach Barbara Foxx said after Jack Britt put a temporary hold on the school’s plans to celebrate her 600th career victory.
The Buccaneers defeated the Patriots 25-19, 25-12, 20-25 and 25-21 at James Moore Gym Thursday evening. The loss was the home team’s first after opening the season with eight victories in a row.
Foxx is bidding to become the fourth high school coach in state history to reach the 600 win plateau in volleyball. The Patriots will entertain Lee County on Tuesday. They swept three games from the Jackets in Sanford on Wednesday.
Janea Williams dominated at the net as the Pats jumped out to a 14-10 lead in the first game. But the Bucs won the game with a 15-5 rally.
The visitors then scored 17 of the final 20 points in the second game rout to take a 2-0 lead. The Patriots led from start to finish in the third game. Leading 18-15 in the fourth, a tie-breaker set was within their sights. The Bucs, now 4-1, scored the next seven points and went on to close out the match.
Addy George was credited with nine kills and 16 digs for the Patriots. Williams had eight kills and five blocks. Keegan Lynch contributed 15 assists and five digs.
