As part of the Kaleidoscope Family Series, the Arts Council of Moore County hosts "The Commedia Princess and the Pea," by the Tarradiddle Players from the Children's Theatre of Charlotte.
The show is scheduled Sunday, Nov. 7, at 4 p.m. at The O'Neal School Activity Center. Tickets ($10 for Arts Council members/O'Neal families or $12 for general public) are on sale now at Campbell House (482 E. Connecticut Ave., Southern Pines), by calling (910) 692-2787, or at the door 30 minutes prior to the show.
In this funny, fast-paced show for ages 4 and up, the Tarradiddle Players put a slapstick spin on Hans Christian Andersen's classic fairy tale on how you can tell if someone is really, truly a princess. The lonely prince wants to find someone to marry, but potential princesses must first get past his mother, the queen, and her long list of royal tests.
"Told in the humorous, physical acting style of Italian Commedia dell'arte, this production is pure fun," says a spokesman.
Tarradiddle Players is the touring company of the Children's Theatre of Charlotte and was founded 38 years ago to bring the joy and wonder of the stage to audiences who might not otherwise see live theater. Having now performed for more than 1 million children across the Southeast, they bring smiles (and maybe a tear or two) to the faces of everyone they meet. And Tarradiddle's performances on the Children's Theatre of Charlotte's MainStage are consistently among the best loved by critics and audiences alike.
The Arts Council's Kaleidoscope Family Series is specifically designed to introduce children, ages 4 and up, to the lifelong surprises and benefits of a live concert. Featuring the finest performing artists (musicians, actors, dancers, storytellers, etc.) available, each performance will be educational, as well as entertaining.
The final two concerts in the Kaleidoscope series include award-winning clarinetist, Jose Franch-Ballester, Sunday, Feb. 13, and the comedy jugglers, The Gizmo Guys, Sunday, March 27.
