PHS Golf Falls Short at Regionals

The Pinecrest girls finished in sixth place at Monday’s storm-interrupted 4A Central Regional Golf Tournament held at Pinehurst No. 6.

Only the top four teams qualified for the 4A state championship at Pinehurst No. 1 next Monday and Tuesday. The Patriots also did not have any players qualify as individuals.

Scores were high all around with Grimsley winning the team title with a total of 269 for its three golfers. Ashley Osiecki, of New Bern, and Morgan Cranford, of Grimsley, both shot a 79 for the low round of the day. Osiecki won a playoff for medalist honors.

A 93 by sophomore Hailey Crider, the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, was the lowest score for Pinecrest. Also for the Patriots, freshman Savannah Thompson finished with a 98 and sophomore Haley Robinson posted a 103.
