PHS Freshmen Blank Hoke County
Trevion Wooten returned the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown and the Pinecrest freshmen football team went on to defeat Hoke County 28-0 Thursday afternoon in Raeford.
After a stop by the defense, Josh McKoy went 40 yards for a touchdown on the Patriots' first play from scrimmage in the game. The second of three extra point conversions by Jackson Maples made it 14-0.
A 48-yard touchdown run by quarterback Tristan Helms and another Maples' conversion extended the margin to 21-0 before the first period was over. McKoy scored again on a two-yard run in the second quarter and Connor Hees kicked the extra point this time, making it 28-0.
One of the highlights of the second half was a 30-yard interception return by the Patriots' Matt Murty. Patriot coach Mike Francis praised the effort of a Buck squad that had only 13 players dressed for the game. All of the Patriots got plenty of playing time as they improved to 5-1 on the season.
