Indonesia and Tea-Time Classes at College

The Center for Creative Retirement at Sandhills Community College provides programs and resources that enhance the intellectual, physical and personal well-being of retirees in the Sandhills area. Classes are open to all. Registration fees are waived for those 65 years and older, however, preregistration is still required.
Explore the most populous Muslim country in the world with emphasis on the crucial 1964 to 1966 period, when the instructor lived on the island of Sumatra. Sessions of "Indonesia 101: An Extended Version" will include geography, ethnic makeup, cuisine, Sukarno, religion, the 1965 coup and aftermath, the tiger whistle and more. This new class will meet Wednesdays, Nov. 3 through Nov. 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. The registration fee is $45.
Tea drinking is an ancient tradition dating back 5,000 years in China and India. Long regarded in those cultures as an aid to good health, researchers now are studying tea for possible use in the prevention and treatment of a variety of cancers. The class is Thursday, Nov. 4, from 4 to 6 p.m. The registration fee is $25.
Register for classes at least one week prior to the starting date. Classes may fill and prohibit further enrollment or they may be canceled if enrollment is low. Walk-in registration is at the Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall during the college's scheduled hours of operation.
