Two Carthage Residents Arrested on Drug Charges

An undercover drug investigation led to the arrest of two Carthage residents Tuesday for the alleged distribution of prescription pills.

Billy Ray Ponds Jr., 49, and Wanda Patterson Williams, 46, both of 364 Plank Road, Carthage, face numerous drug charges related to the investigation, according to a press release.

A search of their home Tuesday by officers from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office narcotics unit and select enforcement unit resulted in the seizure of 74 pills, including oxycontin, percocet, endocet, darvocet and xanax, according to the release. Officers also seized two grams of marijuana, $143 and items of drug paraphernalia, according to the release.

During the undercover investigation, officers purchased and seized 41 percocet pills, according to the release.

Ponds was charged with three counts of felony trafficking in opium, two counts of felony possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, felony sell a Schedule II controlled substance, felony deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, felony possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance, two counts of misdemeanor possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the release. He was jailed, with bail set at $150,000.

Williams was charged with misdemeanor maintaining a dwelling to keep controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, misdemeanor possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, according to the release. She was jailed, with bail set at $20,000.
