The Union Pines soccer team trampled Westover 8-0 in a Cape Fear Valley Conference match Monday in Fayetteville.
The Vikings outshot Westover 38-0 in a completely one-sided affair that saw eight different players find the back of the net.
Union Pines is now 7-4-3 overall and remains in second place in the CFVC with a mark of 7-1-1.
Allen Cha, Adam Howard, Marcus Richard, Michael Lindsay, Will Harding, P.J. Schmittdiel, Chris Tao and Brad Stout all had goals for the Vikings. Cha, Richard, Lindsay and Austin Beers were credited with assists in the tilt.
The Vikes take on the first place Southern Lee Cavaliers Wednesday at 7 p.m. on senior night in Cameron. Southern Lee, the 13th ranked team in the NCSCA 3A poll, sits atop the CFVC standings with an undefeated league mark of 8-0 and is 14-2 overall.
Currently, Union Pines leads third-place Grays Creek (8-4-6, 6-2-1 CFV) by half a game in the league standings. However, the Vikes face the Cavs back-to-back before finishing their conference campaign against Douglas Byrd (2-9-0, 2-6-0), while Gray’s Creek faces Western Harnett (3-8-2, 3-5-1), Westover (0-9) and Overhills (3-10-2, 2-6-1).
