The Pinecrest boys' soccer team claimed both a conference and non-conference victory this week when they defeated Scotland 8-1 Monday night and claimed a 3-0 decision over Fayetteville Terry Sanford on Tuesday night.

Ranked 14th in the state, Pinecrest takes an eight game winning streak against ninth-ranked East Chapel Hill on Thursday night at the local field. The annual Pinecrest Youth Soccer Night festivities will be held, allowing all kids in their team soccer jersey free admission to the game.

Dane Nelsen and Gray Anderson each had two goals to lead the Patriots over conference foe Scotland. Richard Palmer, Hayden Little, Will Price and Jimmy Casey’s penalty kick accounted for the remaining Pinecrest scores. Seeing action in the goal were Mitchell Dotson, Richard Palmer and Blaine Little. The lone Scotland goal came late in the second half.

Pinecrest controlled the ball for most of the first half against Terry Sanford, but only led 1-0 at halftime on Richard Palmer’s score in the 12th minute.

Gray Anderson opened the second half with what appeared to be a nice shot from the left side, but it was negated by an off-side call; however, Dane Nelsen took advantage of the goalkeeper’s position two minutes later for his close-in goal.

Senior Kevin Grasso added a direct kick in the middle of the last half for the final tally. Mitchell Dotson went the distance for the Patriots in goal.

The Pinecrest JVs beat Scotland 5-0 and Terry Sanford 4-0. Garrett Melia and Caelan Kohut were the goalkeepers.
