The Center for Creative Retirement at Sandhills Community College provides programs and resources that enhance the intellectual, physical and personal well-being of retirees in the Sandhills area. Classes are open to all. Registration fees are waived for those 65 years and older; however, pre-registration is still required.

Is a cluttered life getting you down? Get started cleaning up and clearing out with simple time management and organizational systems to help you overcome and eliminate clutter, finish projects, and even save money. "Get a Life! Get Organized!" will meet Wednesdays, Oct. 13, through Oct. 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. The registration fee for this course is $45.

Heart-healthy, therapeutic laughter exercises enrich and benefit the body, mind and spirit. "Laughter in the Sandhills," led by a certified laughter coach, is a wildly popular laughter workout for anyone who loves or needs to laugh. It meets Thursdays, Oct. 14, through Dec. 16, (No class on Nov. 11 or Nov. 25.) from 1 to 2 p.m. The registration fee for this course is $65.

"America and the Courts" will provide a critical analysis of recent Supreme Court decisions impacting the political process and the criminal justice system. This new course will be presented by P. Yellin, J.D., a federal prosecutor and former chief of staff to the New York and Arkansas Attorneys General. This free course will meet Thursday, Oct. 14, and Tuesday, Nov. 9, from 1 to 3 p.m.

With a dash of history and a display of various herbs, Master Gardner Shawna Smith returns to Sandhills to dazzle participants with generous instruction on growing herbs, recipes and tasting foods prepared with her favorite herbs. This free course, "Cooking and Gardening with Herbs," will meet Thursday, Oct. 14, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

The Fall Book Club is free and meets one Friday each month from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. The following books will be discussed: Oct. 15, "The Story of Edgar Sawtelle" by D. Wroblewski; Nov. 19, "My Antonia" by W. Cather; and Dec. 17, "Road from Coorain" by J. K. Conway. (Registration is not required for this course.)

Register for classes at least one week prior to the starting date. Classes may fill and prohibit further enrollment or they may be canceled if enrollment is low. Walk-in registration is at the continuing education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall during the college's scheduled hours of operation.
