Pilot Light: Commissioners Making Meeting Change Permanent

The Moore County Board of Commissioners has decided to change its regular meeting days from Monday to Tuesday.

The decision to make the change was made during the board's meeting Tuesday night.

The change takes place immediately, but the board will make an exception for its first meeting in November. The commissioners decided to hold that meeting on Monday rather than Tuesday because of the conflict with the Nov. 2 general election.

For the past month, the change has seemed the normal thing to do. The first September meeting was moved to Tuesday because of the Labor Day holiday conflict. Then the meeting day was changed to Tuesday for the first October meeting at the request of one commissioner.

At this week's meeting, another commissioner asked to change the next regular meeting from Monday to Tuesday, Oct. 19. That's when Chairman Tim Lea asked his fellow commissioners if they would like to make permanent the change from Monday to Tuesday.

The new schedule will also mean changes in the pre-agenda meeting schedule, according to Laura M. Williams, clerk to the board.

ENGLISH -- Congress-man Howard Coble's latest recognition comes from U.S. English Inc.

"I am pleased to present this award to Rep. Coble for his efforts to unite our diverse nation under the common language of English," said Mauro E. Mujica, chairman of the U.S. English Inc. board.

The 6th District Republican is among House members honored with an "A in English" award based on his votes and co-sponsorships of official English legislation in the 111th Congress.

The news release from Coble's office reports that several recent nationwide polls indicate that most Americans support making English the official language of the country.

Coble, a Greensboro Republican, represents the 6th District, which includes Moore County.

GOP PRECINCT -- Pinehurst Precinct C Republicans will meet at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at Village Hall.

Refreshments will be served. More information is available by calling precinct chairman Robert Tweed at 295-3199.
