International Sardine Festival

The 18th annual International Sardine Festival took place in Aberdeen Friday. Music, a parade of 'Sardine Queens', both past and present and, of course, the ever present sardine were the highlights. Jamie Boles, one of the organizers, talks about Randall Moss, the event's founder, who passed away in March.

Frances Broeils was crowned “Sardine Queen” at today’s 18th annual International Sardine Festival held at Lake Park in Aberdeen.

A large crowd showed up for the festival that started out as a joke, but has evolved into one of the most popular annual community events in Moore County. The sardines, which are given away, ran out by noon.

This year’s festival was a tribute to the founder, Randall Moss, who died March 25. There was a moment of silence in memory of Moss.
