A fumble recovery by Scott Hooper set up the touchdown that gave the Pinecrest freshmen football team a 14-12 victory over Richmond at the John Williams Athletic Complex Thursday afternoon.
The Patriots improved to 4-1, evening the score with a Raider squad that defeated them 6-0 earlier in the season.
After the fumble recovery by Hooper, the Patriot offense marched down the field and scored on a four-yard run by quarterback Tristan Helms. An interception by Trevion Wooten with 3.9 seconds left in the game preserved the win.
A big play by the Patriot defense in the first quarter led to the first points of the game. Bryson Thomas picked off a Raider pass that led to a 20-yard touchdown run by Joseph Anderson. The conversion kick by Jackson Maples made it 7-0.
Richmond scored a second quarter touchdown, but the Patriots stopped the attempted two-point conversion attempt. The Raiders scored again in the third period to take a 12-7 lead and the two-point conversion try was again unsuccessful.
Maples and Josh Roberts intercepted Raider passes in the second half before the Patriots' fourth of the afternoon by Wooten led to the winning touchdown.
