Mr. and Mrs. Sorell Sumner Massenburg

Nedra Darlene McLaughlin and Sorell Sumner Massenburg, both of Boston, Mass., were married at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Love Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Jackson Hamlet. The Rev. Jeremy Hollingsworth officiated at the ceremony.

The reception, hosted by the couple, was held at the Fair Barn.

The bride is the daughter of Willie and Darlean McLaughlin, of Southern Pines, and the granddaughter of Rush and Lucille McLaughlin, of Southern Pines, and Lillian Barner, of Jackson Hamlet. The bride is a graduate of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics and Princeton University. She is a teacher in Boston.

The groom is the son of Sorell and Joyce Massenburg, of Rocky Mount, and the grandson of Mary Bryant Sumner, of Rocky Mount. The groom is a graduate of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a researcher at Harvard University.

The bride was escorted by her father, Willie McLaughlin. She wore an ivory, strapless lace gown and a fingertip tulle veil. She carried a bouquet of pink roses and hydrangeas.

Whitney McLaughlin and Joi McLaughlin, sisters of the bride, of Winston-Salem, were the maids of honor. Evie Massenburg Randolph, sister of the groom, of Greensboro, and Erica Joy Johnson, sister of the groom, of Rocky Mount, were bridesmaids. They wore strapless European bell dresses with a gathered bodice and carried bouquets of hot pink roses.

Jeremy Sumner, cousin of the groom, of Rocky Mount, was the best man. Peter Q. Blair, of Nassau, Bahamas, Willie D. McLaughlin Jr., brother of the bride, of Southern Pines, and Nikehchi Andrew Woherem, cousin of the groom, of Rocky Mount, were groomsmen.

Azhania Allbrooks, cousin of the bride, was the flower girl.

Elvin McCollum Jr., cousin of the bride, was the ring bearer.

Wedding music was provided by Kenneth Barner and Andrew Barner Jr.

Kenneth Barner, of Winston-Salem, and Arlean Graham, of Rockville, Md., directed the wedding.

Following a two-week wedding trip to Italy and Spain, the couple reside in Boston.

The rehearsal dinner was hosted by the couple at Love Grove Freewill Baptist Church.

A bridal shower was hosted by Audrey Jarrett at her home in Durham.
