The 32nd annual Autumnfest takes place Saturday, Oct. 2, at Downtown Park, Southern Pines.

"Come out and join us for great family fun." says a spokesman.

The festival will kick off at 9 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m.

The event will feature crafts, concessions, local entertainment, youth activities/games and foot races. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the 1-mile fun run starting at 9:30 a.m. and the 5K at 9:50 a.m. Registration is $15 the morning of the race.

The 5K Road Race has a competitive route around the historic area of Southern Pines. Due to the race, Ashe Street from East Pennsylvania to East Massachusetts, and New York Avenue from May Street to South East Broad Street, will be closed to through traffic from 6 a.m. to noon.

The annual Kids Races will be held after the conclusion of the 5K event. Youth races are slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. for ages 3-12. Races will vary in distance depending upon age, but all are less than 100 yards.

"If you think you can run fast, come out and take the challenge at Autumnfest," says Sue Gillis, of the Southern Pines Recreation and Parks Department. "Test your foot speed against other kids your age."

Youth races are free, and participants will receive a race ribbon.

Several entertainers, headlined by Rick Hubbard, known as "The King of Kazoo," will be taking the stage.

Hubbard will perform at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Other groups appearing at Autumnfest will be the Sandhills School of Performing Arts at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Steve Brogan, ventriloquist, at 10 a.m. and noon; Sandhills Harmony Chorus at 10:30 a.m.; Terpsichore Dance Studio at 12:30 p.m.; and Pocket Creek Band at 3:15 p.m.
