Jazz Orchestra Appears at Temple Theatre

The Heart of Carolina Jazz Society presents trumpeter and composer Charles Lazarus, performing with the Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra, directed by Gregg Gelb at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at Temple Theatre, in Sanford.
Other featured guests are pianist Steven Anderson, drummer John Hanks and bassist Jason Foureman.
The Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble will open the evening with some big band tunes at 7:45 p.m. This select group of high school players is also directed by Gelb.
The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra has recently released its first CD, "Jazz Encounters," which is available through the website www.carolinajazz.com, at a cost of $15. It includes big band standards and originals as well as jazz arrangements of classical music.
Local members of the group include Rob Hill, Tom Bernett, Fred Brush, Chris Shaw and Steve Mendendez.
Concert tickets are $20 for adults and $10 students/children (general admission).

Temple Theatre is located at 120 Carthage St. in Sanford.
