The annual Veterans Day observance, traditionally presented by the Sandhills Military Officers Association of America, will be held at 11 a.m. in the Pinehurst Village Assembly Hall.
The featured speaker will be retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Robert L. Johnson. He served with the 11th Airborne Division during World War II, from activation at Camp Mackall through the Pacific campaign and finally the occupation of Japan.
The ceremony will include Pinehurst Mayor Virginia Fallon, a color guard from the Air Force Junior ROTC unit at Pinecrest High School, the Golf Capital Chorus and members of Detachment No. 1001 of the U.S. Marine Corps League.
One of the traditions of the observance is introducing each individual veteran in the audience and the formal wreath laying in honor of all veterans.
Following the ceremony, an infantry squad and two up-armored HWWMVs from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, will be on hand. The troopers will describe the capabilities of the team and the equipment, and answer questions.
Refreshments will be served by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign War Post No. 7318 of Southern Pines.
The Pinehurst Village Assembly Hall is at 395 Magnolia Road next to the fire station.
