Three people died Saturday in a two-vehicle collision on N.C. 24/27 at the Montgomery-Moore county line.
Thomas Allan Walters, 29, of 297 Roberts Road, Cameron, Gabriella Bernal, 18, of 179 Oakridge Drive, Robbins, and Domingo Espindola, 23, of 168 Darling Lane, Candor, were all pronounced dead at the scene, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
The wreck was reported around 5 p.m. According to the accident report, Bernal was a passenger in a 1993 Honda del Sol driven by Espindola. He was heading eastbound on N.C. 24/27 when he went off the side of the road, overcorrected and crossed the double yellow line into the westbound lane.
Walters, who was driving a 1993 Honda Civic, was heading westbound and collided with the Espindola car.

I agree. When I saw this picture I could only imagine what the victims went through. As a parent who has lost a child in an accident, this is not what you want to see nor share.

Please note that every person who has a Hispanic name is not automatically "illegal." my3cents has incredibly poor taste. I believe that the comment he/she made should be removed according to the posted policy of The Pilot listed on this blog.

my3cents....that is a completely ignorant comment on your behalf. Just because you see someone that has a hispanic last name does not mean that they are illegal. You need to keep your ignorant opinions to yourself. This is something horrible that happened and 3 different parents lost their children. I do not think that this is something that you should be talking about in the way you are.
I also know the two "illegal" hispanics that you speak of and they were born in this country making them American citizens just like you and me.
How dare you talk about someones family in this manner. I just hope that you think before you speak in the future and think about the other people that you are hurting by the words that you speak...if you even care.
In my opinion people that are ignorant are the worst people in this country....not "illegal" persons.

Although these pictures are somewhat offensive to the human eye, I applaud The Pilot for placing them in the paper. If our teens & young adults can get a birdseye view of what can really happen while on the highway maybe it would save the life of another.

Hispanic sir name doesnt mean their illegal, but it must mean they cant drive. To many wrecks with Hispanic drivers.

Arestorer,
AGE groups are what cause wrecks, not a specific race. How would you like it if something said that white people should not be allowed to drive because they cause too many wrecks. It would probably make you upset. Golden rule: Say and do unto others and you would want done unto you. This comment is extremely offensive.

Arestorer, I did not realize that you were making a joke, I thought you were being serious so you can understand my frustration at thinking you were being serious.
It hurts me to see that people take stories like this and turn it into a political debate. It is as if people do not even care that lives were lost. I see people grieving over these particular lives that were lost on Saturday and then I see the way people are making accusations about hispanics. It is sad to see that people can not treat others as the people that they are but rather an ethnic group that they want nothing to do with.

@rebecca928, My daughter is Oriental and my Granddaughter is Hispanic. I like most humans have prejustice, but mine are mostly against stupid and politicians, not races,(except horse races). Sorry you were offended!

You've got to be kidding me. Are you not reading what you're typing on here? Are you listening to yourselves? I am disgusted that the comments on this story are filled with political arguments about the ethnicity of the people involved in a car wreck. We're talking about human beings here - they were all under the age of 30, they all had family members that are mourning their loss, and they all had much more that they wanted to do with their lives. It's beyond my comprehension how you could read this story and your mind automatically goes to the fact that two of the dead people have Hispanic names and could be illegal. It was a horrific accident and three young people lost their lives. Every single one of you should be ashamed.

I am not suprised to see my comment removed, however I have not violated the usage agreement. Rebecca 928 has been allowed to browbeat others who she deems "racist and ignorant" with impunity. If it causes Rebecca and others so much discomfort to be exposed to other points of view on a public forum then perhaps maybe she should avoid public forums. I suppose this post will have a short life span. So be it.
