Whispering Woods: The Men’s Golf Association played Oct. 29 and the game was a team event with one net ball on par-4 holes, two on par-3 and par-5 five holes. Bob Carlson, Tom Lyon and Rich Moran won with 101.
On Nov. 4 the game was one low net ball on the front nine and two on the back nine. JoeMatejka, Fred Miller, Jim Willard and a Blind Draw won with 86.
On Nov. 30 the game was three low net balls for each foursome. The winners: Two teams tied at 194 – Bob Carlson, Charlie Frick, John Hamm and Bud Henty; and Rich Moran, Tom Nagele, Tom Lyon and Phil Scalia, 194.
The Women’s Golf Association played Nov. 2 with only putts counting on par-4 holes. The winners were: Carol Carlson, tied at 15, with Margret Endrigat and Gerry Scalia; Mary Pat Curl, tied at 16, with Pat Punch.
Whispering Pines: The Ninettes played a “Mutt and Jeff” game (only par 3s and par 5s counted) with one-half of each player’s handicap used for scoring. Play was Nov. 1 on the back nine of the West Course. Flight 1 – Barbara Carlson, 6.6. Flight 2 – Gloria Bergman, 8.
The Men’s Golf Association played Nov. 3 and the game was a two best ball with A & B players and one from C and D players. The winners: Jim Kelley, Dick Mills, Bill Saylor, Win Loughlin, 128; Jim Phillingane, Fred Grunninger, Jerry Leary, Bruce Robson, 129; Simon Alty, Tom Nacca, George Venet, Don MacIlvaine, 131.
Knollwood: The Rainmakers played Nov. 1 in a low gross, low net and low putts tournament. Flight 1 – Gross – Joanne Rabdau, 39. Net – Jo Ann Slayton, 32. Putts – Lucky Levin, 12. Flight 2 – Gross – Doris Stone, 43. Net – Dee Hancock, 33. Putts – Bonnie Colwell, 14. Flight 3 – Gross – Ardith Cutsforth, 42. Net – Mary Pat Curl, 29. Putts – All tied at 14 – Georgia Snow, Marilyn Huntress and Miyuki Kallagis.
Beacon Ridge: The Men’s Golf Association completed their annual Ace of Aces match play tournament Oct. 8 to 10. White Tees – Gross - Mike Swenson over Greg Lookabaugh 2 and 1. Net – Dennis Kalp over Bob Sargert, 3 and 1. Golf Tee – Gross – Ron Daly over George Deignan, 5 and 4. Net – Carl Nueslein over Jim Hurd, 2 and 1.
The Women’s 18-Holers played their monthly net-scores-only Beacon Cup event Nov. 2 with Joyce Loney the winner with a net score of 70. Flight 1 – Sonja White, 72; Nancy Cunningham, 75; Clarice Moreau, 76; Sandra McDermott, 76. Flight 2 – Lois Owen, 72; Barbara Card, 74; Ardie Dodge, 76. Flight 3 – Marianne Foley, 71; Lois Dole, 73; Millie Allen, 74. Flight 4 – Kathleen Deignan, 75; Linda Dunning, 79; Dawn Shapiro, 80.
Pinewild: The Men’s Golf Association played Oct. 28 on the Holly Course with three best balls needed on holes 1 to 6, two on holes 7 to 12 and one on holes 13 to 18. Team winners: Frank Rezeli, Lou Roth, David Lynn, Ron Joseph, 25 under par. Doug Schmidt, Fergie Ferguson, Jack Mahan, 24 under par. Spike Billings, Allan Vernier, Bob Livingston, Jack Butler, 20 under par. Individual winners: Flight 1 – Gross: Mike Tencza, 76; Lou Roth, 79. Net: Frank Rezeli, 66; John Farrell, 70. Flight 2: Walt Kaczynski, 80; Allan Vernier, 82. Net: Eddie Simms, 68; Howard Schubert, 68. Flight 3: Gross: Gordon Rednour, 87; Don Schneider, 92. Net: Jack Mahan, 69; Art Romero, 70. Closest to the pin winners were Vern DeGrange on No. 3, David Lynn on No. 8, Frank Rezeli on No. 12 and No. 17.
The Women’s Golf Association played Nov. 2 in a Stableford tournament. The results were: Flight 1 – Freddy Mastandrea, 36 points, Shelley Denny, 36 points, Judy Mills, 33 points. Flight 2 – Diane Dunlap, 37 points; Gail Corgan, 33 points; Chris Johnson, 32 points. Flight 3 – Patty Hmel, 30 points, Kathy Rezeli, 30 points; Jean Weiler, 29 points.
National: The Men’s Golf Association played Oct. 23 and the format was a par 3 contest and scoring for a skins game and Stableford tournament.
Peter Vanica scored his season best with a 69 (three under par), 32 front nine and 37 back nine. He recorded two birdies on both par 3s on the back nine. Steve Ahlfeld carded scores of 1, 2, 3 and 4 on the par-3 holes and was second with 70.
Skins winners: Steve Ahlfeld, five skins; Peter Vanica and Tom Lorenz, two skins each; John Doster and David Sundman, one skin each. Stableford winners: Peter Vanica, +10; Steve Ahlfeld, +8; David Sundman, +3. Par-3 holes: Gross: Steve Ahlfeld. Net: Peter Vanica and Clair Smith and Andy Summers.
The Men’s Golf Association played Oct. 30 in a skins and Stableford contest. Skins: Giff Fisher, 4; David Sundman, 2; David Dunn, Jim Blank, Clair Smith, one each. Stableford: Giff Fisher, +10; David Sundman, +7; Clair Smith, +6; Paul Courneya, +2; David Dunn, +1.
The Women’s Golf Association played Oct. 20 in a team game with a format of three scores on par 3s, two on par 4s and one on par 5s.
Tied at three for first place were: Kathy Fiske, Diane Tate and Betty Lynch, Susan Courneya, Tricia Knight and Cindy Boals. Carol Spears won the 9-hole division.
The Women’s Golf Association played Oct. 27 in a President’s Cup tournament. The winners: Gross: Susie Points, 87. Net: Lynne Frazier, 70; Pat Blank, 72; Susan Courneya, 75.
The 9-Holers played a stroke play contest with Carol Spears and Karen Mamuzic tied at 45.
On Nov. 3 the Women’s Golf Association game was odds out. Dot Kennihan was first with 18 and Susan Courneya had 19.
Midland: The Ladies Golf Association played Oct. 14 with members and guests participating in their first “Stand up 2 Cancer” fundraiser. As each player signed in they were offered the opportunity to donate to the cancer research fund.
Thirty-eight players, plus four lunch attendees, contributed $825. Inclement weather caused several players to play only a few holes; however, one stalwart foursome completed all nine.
The Men’s Golf Association played Nov. 3 and the format was two best balls of the foursome.
The format was a Nassau tournament with two best balls of the foursome needed for scoring.
Overall: John Conroy, Jack Henderson, Art Gula, Blind Draw, 114. Art Gula won low gross with 78. In a 9-hole skins game the winners were Bill Crenson on No. 1, Maury Finnegan on No. 3 and Vick Kendall on Nos. 4 and 9.
Seven Lakes: The 9-Hole Lakers played Nov. 3 in their monthly Cordial Cup and low putts contest.
Lillian Schafer won the cup with net 32 and Diane Boston won low putts with 13. Other winners – Flight 1 – Betsy Jones, 33; Diane Boston, 38. Flight 2 – Edie Barrett, 34; Marge Randolph, 39; Judy Streit, 39.
