Union Pines hung tough for a half, but then watched visiting Douglas Byrd rip off four unanswered touchdowns on the way to a 51-12 Cape Fear Valley Conference football win tonight.
After the teams ended the half with the score 24-6 in favor of the Eagles, Douglas Byrd scored four consecutive touchdowns to take a 51-6 lead with 9:36 left in the game.
Union Pines added a 15-yard scoring run by A. J. Ritter with 3:43 left in the game to bring in the final count.
Devyn Adams had the Vikings lone score in the first half on a 15-yard dash to the end zone to make the score 21-6. Douglas Byrd added a 31-yard field goal with two seconds left in the half.
Union Pines ended its season 0-6 in conference play and 2-9 overall. Douglas Byrd improved to 4-2 in the conference and 9-2 overall.
