Fifteen students of Gail’s Music Studio, located on May Street in Southern Pines, participated in the National Fraternity of Student Musicians, sponsored by the National Guild of Piano Teachers, Teacher Division of the American College of Musicians, of which Gail Summers is a member.

The group of young pianists performed in the National Piano-Playing Auditions, held at Sandhills Community College Wednesday, May 12, and Thursday, May 13.

Richard Lucht, of Greenville, was the adjudicator who examined the repertoires and evaluated the performances of the students based upon presentation of between one to four works each. They were graded on accuracy, tone quality, technique, rhythm, memory, phrasing, dynamics, pedal usage, interpretation and the choice of song.

Each entrant was given a certificate, a bronze embossed pin, a report card and a year’s membership in the National Fraternity of Student Musicians.

“Gail’s Music Studio is pleased to have received a majority of ‘commendable’ marks on the report cards of all students who attended,” says Summers, who has been a guild member for two years.

The names of the pledge entrants (one piece) were Reagan Adams, Megan Etowski (both second year participants) and Daniel Gualteros (first year). The local member entrants (two pieces) were Julia Anderson, Peter Anderson, Hope DeSpain, Noah DeSpain, Claire Gualteros, Grace Gualteros, Mary Catherine Gualteros and Rachel Stewart (all first year) with Stewart receiving a perfect report card.

Also as local member entrants for their second year of participation were Mary Etowski, Monica Etowski and Adrienne Streahle. A district member entrant with four pieces was Rebecca Evans with her second year of participation.
