Digital Camera Courses Offered at SCC

They say "a picture is worth a thousand words." Digital cameras provide limitless opportunities to tell your stories conveniently and instantly on your terms.

"The Continuing Education Division at Sandhills Community College will be offering several courses this summer to help you develop the digital photography skills you seek," says a spokesman.

"Getting to Know Your Digital Camera in a Day" will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. three days during the summer semester. Choose Thursday, May 27, Wednesday, July 7, or Thursday, July 22, to learn the common features found on most digital cameras, how to use them to produce quality images and how to transfer the images to a computer. Registration for the course is $35 (all must pay, no waiver for age). The prerequisite for this course is Windows Level 1 or prior computer experience with mouse and keyboard proficiency.

"Getting to Know Your Digital Camera in a Day and Beyond" will be offered twice during the summer semester. Choose to attend this course either Monday through Thursday, June 1 through June 7, or June 28 through July 1, from 2 to 5 p.m. to learn camera settings, intricacies of lighting and resolution, transferring images to a PC, printing and sharing photos. Students must bring their camera, cables and manual to the first class. Registration for the course is $65 (waived for those 65 and older) and a $5 technology fee, which must be paid by all.

"Digital Camera 911" will provide instruction on topics from file management to camera settings and will be offered Monday through Thursday, June 28 through July 1, from 8 to 10 a.m. Registration is $65 (waived for those 65 and older) plus a $5 technology fee, which must be paid by all. Students must have taken a previous digital camera class. The prerequisite for this course is "Getting to Know Your Digital Camera."

A new, three-hour "Digital Camera Workshop" will meet Monday, July 19, from 2 to 5 p.m. Registration for the course is $25 (all must pay, no waiver for age). The prerequisite for this course is "Getting to Know Your Digital Camera" and "Windows Level I."

Register at least a week before the first day of the class. Walk-in registration and payment can be made at the continuing education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall, Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. Phone-in registration at (910) 695-3980 requires payment with Visa, MasterCard or Discover.
