Sports Briefs: North Moore to Face East Surry

North Moore’s softball team has been anticipating a state-playoff match-up against East Surry all season long.

That match-up will take place Tuesday in the third round of the Class 1A playoffs, when the Yadkin Valley Conference two-seed Lady Mustangs (25-3) travel to face the Northwest Conference champion Cardinals (22-6) at 6 p.m.

With North Moore awaiting the winner, East Surry defeated Yadkin Valley three-seed East Montgomery 6-0 on Friday in a game that went scoreless into the fourth inning.

The winner of Tuesday’s game will face the winner of the third-round match-up between Southern Piedmont Conference champion Cherryville (20-5) and Yadkin Valley Conference champion South Stanly (22-5) in the regional semifinals.

The Southern Pines Recreation and Parks Adult Church Softball League regular season has ended, with double-elimination postseason tournaments scheduled to begin play Tuesday.

The final regular-season standings are as follows: Aberdeen First Baptist 10-0, Taylor Memorial Baptist 9-1, Deep Creek Baptist 8-2, Sonlight Church 6-4, Bensalem Presbyterian 5-5, Grace Church 5-5, Pinehurst Methodist 4-6, Southern Pines First Baptist 4-6, Pleasant Hill Baptist 2-8, Seven Lakes Baptist 2-8, Sandhills Presbyterian 0-10.

The top six teams are slated to play in the Southern Division tournament to be held at Armory Field, with fourth-seeded Sonlight facing fifth-seeded Bensalem and third-seeded Deep Creek facing sixth-seeded Grace in the opening round on Tuesday. Top-seeded Aberdeen First Baptist and second-seeded Taylor Memorial hold first-round byes and await the respective winners.

Meanwhile, the Pines Division tournament will be held at Optimist Field, with fourth-seeded Seven Lakes Baptist facing fifth-seeded Sandhills Presbyterian in the opening round on Tuesday. Second-seeded Southern Pines First Baptist and third-seeded Pleasant Hill will also face off in a second-round game Tuesday, while top-seeded Pinehurst Methodist awaits the Sandhills Presbyterian-Seven Lakes Baptist winner in a Thursday second-round game.
