Lady Pats Finish Third at Regional Track

Lexie Schustrom, Hannah Hensley and Jennie Cunningham won individual titles and the Pinecrest girls came in third as a team at the 4A East Regional Track and Field Championships held at West Johnston High School on Saturday.
Schustrom, a senior, finished first in the 3,200-meter run and was third in the 1,600. Hensley won the high jump and took third in the long jump. Cunningham was first in the 800-meter run. Both Hensley and Cunningham are freshmen.
Southeast Raleigh won both the boys' and girls' regional titles. Pinecrest tied for 19th place in the boys' meet. The first four finishers in each event qualified for the state meet to be held at North Carolina A&T next Friday and Saturday.
The other state qualifier for the Patriot girls was junior Ceci Weibert for taking third place in the pole vault. Also earning points for the Patriot girls in individual events were Candice Seagraves, seventh in the triple jump, Ashley Brock, seventh in the 1,600 and Hayden Rudd, eighth in the 3,200.
The Patriot girls also picked up points in two relay events. Hayden Rudd, Jenna Woronoff, Olivia Hernandez and Katana Lemelin came in sixth in the 3,200 relay. Brianna Alston, Courtney Rainey, Breanna Quick and Taylor Morris finished in eighth place in the 400 sprint relay.
George Hayes was a Pinecrest qualifyier for the state boys' after taking third place in the pole vault. The other point-scorer for the Patriot boys was Dylan Gaffney for taking a sixth in the shot put and eighth place in the discus.

OK, why no story on UP track at the Mideast 3A regionals?

Well, it looks like Franco remembered the UP track folks. Can't forget about the NM tracksters which I did see in the print edition. Gotta keep up with the track and field folks, you never know who's gonna make a name for themselves!
