Foxfire: The Ladies Golf Association played on May 4 and 7 for the 2010 Mackenzie Cup, a two-day low net format. Joan Fruiesen won with 141. Anita Clapp had 144, Ginny Siedler 145 and Barbara Price 147.

On May 12, the game was Bogies or Better, a team event with the following winners: Anita Clapp, Marilyn Grady, Sue Williamson, Judy Smith, 70; Rita Ward, Carolyn Gilbert, Sue Manley, Jean Brown, 68.

Holes-In-One: Pat Lynch, a member of Whispering Pines, aced two holes in three days. His first ever was on May 7 while playing the 142-yard 12th hole of the East Course. He used his 8-iron to reach the green. His playing partners were Susan Shorten and Daryl and Larry Pierce.

His second ace was on May 10 at the Southern Pines Golf Club on the third hole. He used his 3-wood to cover the 176 yards to the green, hitting just in front with the ball rolling dead into the cup. His playing partners were Don MacIlvaine, Bob Flygar and Al Motta.

Jeannie Alvarez made her second hole-in-one on April 6 on the 89-yard 17th hole of the Holly Course. She used her 6-hybrid. Her playing partners were Nancy Davis, Chris Novak and Sue Wisniewski.

Judy Dickerson, a member of Foxfire, scored her ace on May 12 on the 138-yard 12th hole using her 5-wood. Her playing partners were Phyllis Bottoms, LaVerne Hess and Ginny Siedler.

Donald Schutt, a member of The Bluff Golf Links, scored his first hole-in-one on April 26 on the 110-yard 13th hole using his 5-iron. His playing partner was Carl Wood.

Bascom Johson, a member of The Bluff Golf Links, scored his first hole-in-one on April 17 hitting an easy 5-iron 163 yards, to the 10th hole. His playing partners were Dipak Patel and Terry Michaels.

Bobby Luck strikes again, making his ninth hole-in-one and his third in 10 days at Loch Haven Golf Club in Rockingham. He hit his driver into the hole from 280 yards to the 15th green. His playing partner was Richard Jacobs. His first two were at the 10th and 13th holes at The Bluff.

Whispering Pines: The Men’s Golf Association played its annual Member-Member Tournament on May 3, 5 and 6. The format was six nine-hole matches. The first four matches were the better of two balls, and the last matches were individual match play. Two points were awarded for a win, ties received one point.

Flight 1 — Junior Jones and Jim Philingane, 10.1 points; Jim O’Malley and Art Woodward, 7.8 points. Flight 2 — John Gerwig and Fred Grunninger, 9.2 points. Don MacIlvaine and Pat Lynch, 7.2 points. Flight 3 — Tony Grose and Paul Hallet, 9.9 points; Stan Outland and Dick Hammond, 9.5 points. Flight 4 — Tom Daughtrey and Bob Fetters, 9.9 points; Michael Tile and Dick Mills, 7.6 points. Flight 5 — Chris Reitler and Stafford Thornton, 9.4 points; Win Loughlin and Jerry Osborne, 8.3.

The Pinettes played a Nose Tournament with holes 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 16, 17 and 18 used for scoring. Flight 1 — Karen Hobbs, 34; Helen Gibbons, 34. Flight 2 — Nancy O’Connell, 31; Sallie Daughtrey, 35; Jan Marshall, 35. Flight 3 — Nancy Donley, 34; Barbara Fulghum, 36; Anne Gerwig, 36. Flight 4 — Louise Warnimont, 34; Pam Dodge, 37. The Ninettes played on May 10 in a low net tournament. The winners: Flight 1 — Pat Linss, 36 (MOC); JoAnn Boron, 36 (MOC). Flight 2 — Margaret Pluff, 32; Val Flahie, 37.

Beacon Ridge: The Ladies 18-Holers held their annual Member-Guest Tournament on May 11 and the theme was “Golf the Highlands,” a tribute to Scotland, the birthplace of golf. Everyone was greeted by bag-piper Jimmy Hurd, who entertained during registration and morning refreshments.

The format was two best balls of the foursome with the following winners:

First — Barb Keiffer and Diane Boston with Dawn Shapiro and Dorothy Flack, 115. Second — Judy Kullberg and Marge Blake with Ardie Dodge and Jennifer Blanchard, 119. Third — Mary Snead and Ann Nash with Ann Doster and Marilyn Mahan, 121 (MOC). Fourth — Lois Dole and June Hale with Kathleen Deignan and Patricia McKeon, 121. Fifth — Edna Henrich and Donna Henrich with Mary Lois Teyssier and Joan Gills, 121.

Mary Sneed won closest to the pin for members and Peg Bellew for guests. Closest to the line for members was Mary Lois Teyssier and for guests Sis Aleksa.

The Beaconettes played a Stableford Tournament on May 13 and the winners were: Mary Snead, Susan Schurr, Nancy Steelman and Georgia Pollnow, 53 points; Sally Terrutty, Ann Doster, JoAnn Dyson, Barb True, 36 points.

Southern Pines: The Par Seekers played a Low Gross/Low Net Tournament on May 11 with the following winners: Flight 1 — Gross: Sharon Hinkle, tied at 82, with Bonnie Quesenberry. Net: Louise Pierce, 69; Judy Barrenger, 71. Flight 2 — Gross: Ginger Addis, 98. Net: Nancy Jacobs, 76; Joy Shelton, 78. Flight 3 — Gross: Jenny Stuber, 106. Net: Pat Hoffman, 74; Billie Joyce Hill, 75.

Woodlake: The Ladies Golf Association played on May 4 on the Maples Course with each player allowed to convert three holes to par. The winners: Angie Forge, 58; Lorraine Buracker, 60; Be Schilling, 61.

Louise Plumb with a net score of 25 won the Criss-Cross Tournament played on the Palmer Course on May 6.

The Ladies Niners played on May 10 in a Best Five Holes Tournament on the Maples Course. The results are as follows: Flight A — Elena Burd, 15; Lois Vaughn, 17; Judy Kerr, 18. Flight B — Margie Spory, 15 (MOC); Katy Scroggins, 15 (MOC); Barbara Misiaszek, 18. Flight C — Mary Lawrie, 15; Sheila Essom, 19; Barbara Schmidt, 20.

Whispering Woods: The Men’s Golf Association played on May 7 in a team event with one net ball needed on par 3s and 4s and two on par 5s.

Bill Anderson, Bud Henty, Blake Hetterich and Tony Rodriquez, tied at 75, with Charlie Brady, Al Gaeta, John Hamm and a Blind Draw.

On May 10, the game was a team event with two gross and one net counting on each hole. Bill Blades, Blake Hetterich, Bill Woodruff and a Blind Draw won with 212. Steve Luckhaus, Hank Smallacombe, Jim Willard and a Blind Draw had 220.

On May 12, the event was a Member-Member Tournament with one best ball needed for scoring on the front nine and two on the back nine. John Hamm and Blake Hetterich, 96; Bill Bartlett and Bud Henty, 96; Charlie Brady and Fred Miller, 97.

Closest to the pin on No. 6 was Joe Matejka and on No. 11 it was Lloyd Brennan.

Longleaf: The Longleaf Ladies played an Odds and Even Tournament, odd holes on the front and even on the back. Darlene Luppino won with 44. Marian Morrison won low putts with 34. Christine Carter birdied hole No. 2.

Knollwood: The Sandblasters played on May 11 in a two best balls of the foursome format. The winners: John Wunderlin, Bob Edwards, Bill Parke, Blind Draw, 53; Jim Taylor, Jack Henderson, Bob Mellinger and Dick Heilman, 57 (MOC); Rick Stone, Jim Burrill, Carl Arnet and John Claxin, 57 (MOC).

Bill Crenson won low gross with 38 and Jim Burrill won low net with 28. Bob Edwards birdied No. 5 and Mac Andrews won closest to the pin.

The Rainmakers played on May 10 in a net score only tournament. Flight 1 — Dot Smith, tied at 31, with Penny Higgins. Lois Vollmer, 32. Flight 2 — Linda Parke, 31; Georgia Snow, 33. Flight 3 — Carole Amlot, 28; Liz Green, 31. Flight 4 — Elizabeth Garner, 27; Barbara Farr, 33.

Pinehurst: The Women’s Golf Association played on No. 3 on May 6 and the format was 3s on 3 — three best balls on holes 3, 9 and 13 and one best ball on all others. It was an ABCD foursome format with 95 percent of each player’s handicap used for scoring.
