Recycling Drive

Keep Moore County Beautiful Inc. is sponsoring a mixed paper recycling drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at the Kangaroo Station in the Fresh Market Shopping Center, Southern Pines.

Acceptable items include anything that is paper: all Christmas paper and flattened boxes, paper grocery bags, telephone books, paperback books, junk mail, magazines, catalogs, shredded paper, flattened corrugated cardboard, office paper and newspapers. Also accepted are household and rechargeable batteries, inkjet cartridges, cell phones, diskettes, CDs, DVDs and laptop computers.

Arboretum Concert

Matthew Marketing, RLM Entertainment, the Pinehurst Parks and Recreation Department and the Arts Council of Moore County will host “Moore Jazz and Blues,” an Arboretum concert series event, from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at the Arboretum in Wicker Park.

“Bring your picnic baskets and lawn chairs for this free concert in the beautiful Arboretum,” says a spokesman.

Food and beverage vendors will be available.  The jazz line-up includes local North Moore High School jazz bands, followed by legendary jazz saxophonist Reggie C, with the John Brown Band jazz quintet featured as the headliner.

Fish Fry

Shiloh A.M.E. Zion Church will hold a fish fry and yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at 206 Keyser St., Aberdeen.

Given on the Green

Given on the Green, an elegant evening on the Village Green in Pinehurst, with an intimate ambience showcasing fine food, spirits and entertainment, takes place from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 15.

All festivities for the evening will take place on the historic library and archives grounds under a magical canopy of beautiful lights. Guests will be invited to enjoy a “progressive style” evening and sample the area’s greatest food as well at various tents decorated by top designers in the Sandhills. Each guest will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite tent, appetizer, entree and dessert throughout the evening.
