Nashville Was Ignored

Can anyone explain to me why the severe floods in Nashville and central Tennessee have been ignored by Obama and the mainstream left media?

Seems to me that if these floods had killed people in New Orleans there would be a different response from mainstream media and Obama.

How were they ignored. I have read about them in the mainstream media and on television. So what is your point? That dying people are more important in New Orleans than in Nashville? Your letter makes no sense.

Nashville hasn't been "ignored." NOLA was a bigger story becuase FEMA botched the relief job so badly. That hasn't happened in Nashville to nearly the same extent.

But the right needs something to be unhappy and feel put upon about, so they've manufactured this 'Nashville's being ignored" story. "The government did what it's supposed to" is the story that's really being ignored.

And BTW, the conservative Heritage Foundations is griping that FEMA does too much.

Don't need to Google it. I knew about it. Because it hasn't been ignored. And "Obama hasn't done anything about the oil slick" is unusually stupid, even for you.

Nice try at changing the subject from Nashville, but as usual, steveital, you fail.

Wasn't there a tragic snowstorm that crippled Colorado & that vicinity a while back??? Did anyone rush in to help them? FEMA? I know they had to tough it out for awhile & there wasn't any violence or looting to my knowledge. Does anyone remember that & can shed some light?

Thanks, Needle. I can't believe it was 7 years ago!!!

The only thing BP (Broken Pipe) Could have done to make this ecological disaster worse than what it is would be to load a boat up with workers and go baby seal clubbing and while they were at it might as well harpoon a few whales along the way. Dont think for a Minute that BP Wont Pay for the damage but i can assure you the cost will be passed along to every one of us at the pump.

I'm curious. What resources does the federal government have for such a disaster that have not been deployed? I know the Coast Guard is in the area with booms and the like.

I for one really don't have a problem with demanding BP clean up their spills, just like anyone who makes a mess. also..if the federal government was doing BP's job for them, wouldn't that be the worst sort of corporate welfare?

As someone who has lived in New Orleans for the past 3 years post Katrina and has dealt with the shortcomings of both FEMA, our local and federal government here, it's sad that people are saying Nashville is being ignored or that no one cares about them. I have seen videos saying that Nashville took care of their own and doesn't need assistance, etc. Unfortunately, the Nashville flooding, the failed car bombing attempt, the oil spill in the Gulf and now the tragic tornadoes in Oklahoma have all lead to extreme media coverage and I do not think even the media knows which direction to turn. First hand the NYC bombing affected me as I was two blocks from Times Square on a work trip when it occured, while the TN flooding affected me as I had friends, family and co-workers who live there, and the Gulf is in my backyard. To say people, places and things are being forgotten is ignorant. I think there is just so much damage and deterioration going on in our Country right now no one knows what to address first.

I am from Nashville and I have family who still live there. The city was not ignored in any way. They have many organizations who came and supported them during this time. As American's, we need to stop pointing fingers. Every time something happens in the world, we feel we need to blame someone. Has anyone ever thought that this may be God's way of trying to show us that we, as a country, need to stop letting the devil win all the battles. Issues like these are the ones that separate us. If you feel that the President or the media is not doing a good job, stand up and make something happen. What has each of us done to help Nashville? This is a time, as with New Orleans, where the US citizens, should have stepped in to help these people and stop pointing the finger at someone else. We are "One Nation Under God."

ChuckTaylor, one would think making the statement that "Barak Obama does not care about white people" that is so utterly bereft of logic should cause pain in the speaker.

Chuck,

Go easy on us "Old" folks who are out of touch with pop-culture. Heck son, I still remember when "pop" was either a soda or my father!;^}

Thanks for explaining the "Barak Obama does not care about white people" joke, once I understood the reference it was funny. Okay, we can all be friends again. Geritol for everyone!

you know, every time i read these i get more and more upset, not just with the way everyone is towards each other, but the media as well.
all we ever hear is about bad things, how about lets talk about something good, how about the paper at least run a article once a month on something some did that was good for a change. i know it happens alot, people do good for strangers, neighbors, etc. all it takes is one act of kindness from you to start a good reaction from another.
i hate watching the news because of all the negativity in the world... we have to change this, you and I , no one else. doesnt matter what it is, something small, simple, letting a car out into traffic, opening a door, giving a smile, or you dont have much money and you still give it to the person at the door at walmart on your way out who have a jar sitting there.
the petty stuff that goes back and forth is it worth it at the end of the day? does it really make you feel better? but it sure would be nice to open up the paper and see a moving story of average "joe" who did something out of the kindness of his/her heart for a stranger. but instead, it's always depressing, negative stuff and we all wonder why we have nothing but hate, around us?

@cspinc-

I have to respectfully disagree with you when you said, "we all wonder why we have nothing but hate, around us" - I just wanted to let you know that I don't fall into this category; I'm a lover not a fighter! If you would like a hug - just let me know ;)

I am from Nashville, and I am proud to say that Nashvillians (and other Tennesseans) are not sitting around waiting for the media to recognize them. They have pulled together... neighbors helping neighbors, strangers helping strangers. The Red Cross themselves were astounded by all that the people of Nashville had done so soon after the disaster to bring the city forward. This is what ALL Americans should strive to do. So many times after a disaster everyone sits around helplessly waiting for the government, media or SOMEONE ELSE to pick up the slack, but we should all take pride in humanity and help each other out. Stand strong, Nashville. We all support you. We are Nashville.

well, aparently you didnt really read my comment, there is alot of hate around us. I dont need a hug either, what i'm saying is simple.. report the news for what it is, andthere is alot of negative things all around us all, watch any news you wish, read any paper, is there a good hearted story on the front page, or a good hearted story making headlines... nope.. and if "we" want to change things for the better, then "we" should take a closer look at these things. do we turn on our local news at night and see how someone gave a family in need a brand new washing machine without nothing in return? no... if anyone does hear about it, ... it might be at the very end and right before commercial break. it's up to all of us to change the way we all interact and accept the things that are before us.

I just want to thank you guys for my Friday night entertainment! It has been a great hour reading comments on a few "top" stories. ChuckTaylor, you are my favorite! I have agreed with 95% of your comments! I must do this next weekend. Now, pertaining to the story, personally I feel there have been so many disasters in the mainstream media that it is hard to keep up. My church takes part in sending donations to "hard hit" areas. The frequency and number of disasters being so great, has made it difficult for us to keep up. "Humanitarianism is an ethic of kindness, benevolence and sympathy extended universally and impartially to all human beings. Humanitarianism has been an evolving concept historically but universality is a common element in its evolution. No distinction is to be made in the face of human suffering or abuse on grounds of gender, tribal, caste, religious or national divisions."(WP. 2010) It should not be about gender, race, or social status. So that is where we need improvement. It starts within your selves.
