The Temperance Smith Alston Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Pinehurst, announces its winners for the 2010 Junior American Citizens Contest.

Emily Muse (Carthage Elementary), Lena Atoya (Pinehurst Elementary), Hannah Murphy (Pinehurst Elementary), Brandon Lopez (New Century Middle) and Alexys Ewing (Aberdeen Elementary) were recipients of NSDAR certificates and monetary awards from the chapter.

Muse, Atoya and Murphy attended the presentation Saturday, March 27, at Given Memorial Library.

Open to all students in public, private, parochial and sanctioned home schools in grades pre-school through 12, this year’s national theme was “America, Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.”

Depending on grade level, students could enter the contest in various areas of art, creative expression or community service topics. These five local entries have been submitted to the NCSDAR Junior American Citizens’ Committee for competition at the next level.

Penny Warters and Kay Lund served as co-chairmen of the JAC committee.
