Thread That Binds Them

Radicals are continually defining who and what tea party people are, almost always in derogatory and/or disgusting terms.

Tea party people are, in fact, citizens of this country whose hands are holding on to “the thread that binds us” and holds us together, generation after generation. When needed, they step forward to bring liberty and freedom back into their proper position. They will go to the polls in November and vote to save our Constitution.

They rally and say, “We are coming, we will be there, we will vote you out because you are violating our trust. We are offering others the chance to grab hold of ‘the thread.’ We have a duty, we have an obligation to those who came before us and to those who will come after us. We think the United States of America is a good and great country and we will protect it. We are as dedicated as those who wrote our Constitution and as those who have fought and died to preserve it. It is our turn, our responsibility, and we will be there.”

These people are not afraid. They cannot be bribed or bought off. There is no need for violent behavior or for a community organizer. They hold “the thread.” They will not let go.

I proudly stand, join and will vote with them.

Gail, I don't quite understand why you say "radicals are continually defining who and what tea party people are." I am not a radical but I do seek to understand who the tea partiers are. There's nothing wrong with that, is there? You must admit, the tea partiers are on the news quite a bit, and I'm sure they want to be, or else why would they dress up in costumes and carry signs, some not very pleasant, I might add. You also mention they try to save our Constitution. I think that needs a little explaining. This marvelous document stands on its own merits and well over 200 years. What exactly are the tea partiers saving? Please be more specific.

'I'm calling you a radical and claiming you're destroying the country, but it's for your own good, so why don't you love me? WAAAAAAAH!"

Part of the Tea Party creed seems to be that they can say as many derogatory things about others as they please, but that they themselves should be immune from any criticism.

Needle, are you calling me a radical? I can assuredly tell you I am not. I am a moderate politically. I agree with you that the tea partiers I have seen on TV say and do many things. Most seem to be a mixed bag. The editorial above that I responded to made a lot of sweeping statements, but had very little back-up. I was trying to get the writer to support what she said. That's usually a good thing in life, wouldn't you agree? Otherwise, her tea party friends are just people in costume holding negative signs for a TV audience.

No, dear, but I'm sure the letter writer would, and then be baffled that you objected to it.

Have a nice day.

Like several other of the folks commenting on Ms. Julian's letter, I would like clarification on many of the broad, sweeping statements made by the groups calling themselves Tea Party members. I'll list the specific statements outlined in her letter that I would like to see explained in greater detail: 1)Liberty and freedom are evidently not "in their proper position". Explain which liberties and freedoms fall into this category and how will they be returned to their proper place. 2)The Constitution is apparently in jeopardy. Explain what is the source of this threat and what would be your solution for "saving" it. 3)Who is it that is "violating our trust"? How will you propose electing officials that only have your personal best interest at heart? Do you believe that government should represent all citizens or just those who share your personal viewpoints. I trust that you do not consider my questions to be either derogatory or disgusting. If you can provide these answers, you'll go a long way in helping make your cause more understandable.

You're asking for specifics for a tea partier? Yeah, good luck with that. They're all about vague, undefined rage, a pervasive sense of victimhood, and an unshakable conviction that some "other" has "taken their country away".

Thank you Needle, jimt, JER, and dustyrhoades. You all helped me make my points! That letter was just too dramatic for me! Whew!

Sounds familiar.

Could it not be said that all people have their opinions on politics, and the Tea Party believes in what they stand for, just as you all have have your opinions. I have personally seen the worst coming from all sides. How soon do we all forget the past, and look for someone to blame instead of trying to work out some solutions to all of our problems we face in this country. We need to keep the best people we can working for us in office, and quit all the fighting. Who cares what someone says, instead let's worry about what they can do for this country.

I don’t understand why you or the Tea Party would call anyone outside your party a RADICAL. I simple don’t know what the Tea Party really stands for. What Tread, are you talking about, that holds the Tea Party together? What is this Tread That Binds are you talking about? What Liberties and Freedoms are being taken from you? Tell me what the Tea Party really stands for or what they’ve accomplished for the good of ALL our people and then maybe I’d consider joining. I’ve talked with some of the Tea Party members, but they didn’t seem to be open to any ones view point except their own. It was like; “if you don’t agree with us on our views” then you’re not wanted in our party”. It came across as hostile and almost like Nazism.

Part 1. The Tea Party members I’ve spoken with keep saying that our Government is becoming or has become Socialist. We all have the freedom to join with these organizations; Why, because our Government protects and ensures us of those rights. My response to their Socialist remarks would be in the form of questions. If you hate our Government so much then please ask yourself and your family to stop using any thing that (what you call) our Socialist Government ( our taxes ) provides for the American citizens.

Have you ever used or participated in any of the, what you call, socialist goods and services that the USA government or local governments provides for the American people?

Listed is ONLY a few; there are many more.

  1. Use of the Internets, email, and networked computers (USA government - DoD's ARPANET was the basis for subsequent computer networking).

  2. Roads and Highways (Did you use a highway today) they were built and is maintained by our Government funds.

  3. Sidewalks (Did you or your family or friends need these today) they are built and maintained and funded by our Government funds.

  4. Police, Fire, and Emergency Services (Did you or your family or friends need these today) they are funded by our Government funds)

  5. Public Water, Sewer Services and Utilities - elec. (Did you or your family or friends need these today) they are funded by our Government funds). (no more socialist water, toilet, shower, lights or anything that requires elec., dishwasher, kitchen sink)

  6. Did you eat food today? Food, Meats, Produce and Medicines are inspected by our socialist Fed. Government (FDA), to help keep us alive and well.

  7. Ask a farmer: They get Government Subsidies for growing and harvesting most of our food supply: Most Foodstuffs, Meats, Produce and Crops are Grown, Fed, and Raised with Government Subsidies. Clothing Made from Crops like cotton.

  8. Municipal Garbage and Recycling Services

  9. Treatment at Any Hospital or Clinic That Ever Received Funding from Local, State or Federal Government (all of them receive government funding)

  10. Medications and Medical Services: ALL Were and is Created or Derived From Government Grants or Research Funding (all of them receive government funding)

  11. Unemployment Insurance (would you not accept this, even if your children were hungry and you have no place for them to live). After all, you and the company you worked for paid the insurance premiums, (same as expecting your health insurance company to pay for your medical needs, out of the premiums you and the company paid in).

  12. Would you use this if your child needed care? State Children’s Health Insurance Programs (SCHIP) or Medicaid

Part 2. 13. How about Social Security and Medicare for your elderly parents or grand parents: Would you rather they suffer and die? (After all, you and the company or companies you work for ( for 45 to 50 years) pay the Social Security and Medicare insurance premiums into the Government system - similar to paying into a 401K system). If you and the company pays into your 401K for 50 years, wouldn't you expect the funds to be there in retirement, when you need them?

  1. US Postal Service (Did you or your family or friends need this today) it’s funded by our Government funds)

  2. How about our government-funded / socialist BANKS (FDIC ins., your funds - ins. to protect you.)

  3. How about our government-funded / socialist military of the United States of America (that fights our wars and keeps us free).

  4. Have you used Public Subways and Metro Systems?

  5. Have you used The US Railway System?

  6. Have you used Public schools, Public and State Universities and Colleges, Public Primary and Secondary Schools, Public Museums, Libraries, Public Parks and Beaches, State and National Parks, Public Zoos, Public Bus and Light rail Systems.

  7. Are you a veteran of the government-run socialist US military? Have you accepted VA benefits and medical care?

  8. Have you used Rest Areas on Highways (built and maintained by gov)

  9. Air Travel (regulated by the socialist FAA for your safety)

  10. Did you use money today? It is made by the Fed. Government.

  11. Have you ever toured the socialist government buildings: the Capitol in Washington, D.C., Smithsonian Museums such as the Air and Space Museum or Museum of American History, Lincoln, and Jefferson Monuments, Statue of Liberty, The Grand Canyon, World War II and Vietnam Veterans Memorials, Arlington National Cemetery

  12. Are your Member of Congress and Senator paid with a government salary and do they accept a government-provided healthcare? Why would you vote for someone that is a Socialist like this and depends on a socialist Gov. (tax payers) for their income and health care?

  13. Why would you work for the socialist defense contractors such as GE, Lockheed-Martin, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, Raytheon, IBM, Humana, FedEx, General Motors, Honeywell, and hundreds of others that are paid by our socialist government to produce goods for our socialist military?

  14. Why do you use these every day of your life? The security departments ( socialist) of our Gov.: the Pentagon, FBI, CIA, Department of Homeland Security, TSA, Department of Justice.

"How many times has everyone heard that approach? "

Sneering that something has been said before does not refute it.

Very good information above. This is what all of us should really be upset over. They are not just talking in government they are wasting our money. The working people in this country could use that money much more wisely in their own bank accounts. There is not one business person in this country that could make a living if they ran their businesses in that same way. Many people forget our goverment does not earn or "make" any money. It is only collected from those working people (or that have worked) that pay taxes and fees. Let's make sure those we support in politics know we are watching the wasteful spending going on, and that we want a better job done with our money.
