O’Neal Baseballers Rally for Victory

Down to its last out in the top of the seventh inning, The O’Neal School’s baseball team rallied for five runs to beat homestanding Fayetteville Christian 10-8 Thursday.

Dante Delguercio drove in the go-ahead run, and Devin Roberts pitched the final four innings to earn the win.

Christian Bolduc led the Falcons’ effort at the plate with three hits. Derek Ailerson and Jay Lassiter added two hits apiece, with one of Ailerson’s going for a triple.

O’Neal plays its last regular season game Tuesday at Fayetteville Academy at 4 p.m.

Boys’ Tennis Wins

The O’Neal School boys’ tennis team scored a 6-3 conference victory over Fayetteville Christian Thursday at the Fayetteville Racket Club.

In singles, Corbin O’Donnell (ON) defeated Hayden Lancaster 6-2, 6-0, Bryce Baldelli (ON) defeated John Ginn 6-1, 7-5, Evan Davies (ON) defeated Reget Perez 6-3, 6-2 and Scott Karan (ON) defeated Caleb Weaver 6-3, 6-2. Matthew Friesen (ON) lost 6-3, 6-0 to Will Vines, while Ping Virojveerakul (ON) lost to Luke Weaver 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, O’Donnell and Davies defeated Lancaster and Ginn 8-1, Baldelli and Friesen defeated Perez and Vines 9-8 (5) and Thomas Griffin and Stephen Coppola (ON) lost to Weaver and Weaver 8-2.

In an exhibition match, Alex Averbook and Andy Jackson (ON) defeated Robbie Sketch and Nathaniel Ellis 8-1.

O’Neal improved to 8-5 overall and 4-3 in the Cape Fear Independent Conference with the win, while Fayetteville Christian dropped to 4-6 overall and 2-5 in league play.

The Falcons are back in action Tuesday at Fayetteville Academy.

Lady Falcons Rebound

The O’Neal School’s girls’ soccer team bounced back from a 1-0 loss at 11th-ranked Fayetteville Christian Thursday with a 2-0 win over visiting Scotland Friday.

The Lady Falcons (3-8-2, 1-6-2) play their regular season finale Tuesday at second-ranked and undefeated Fayetteville Academy (15-0).
