The Pinecrest boys and girls prepped for next week’s Southeastern Conference Track and Field Championships by winning Thursday’s tri-meet held at Hoke County High School.
The Patriot girls scored 101 points to finish in front of Richmond Senior with 32 and Hoke with 30. The totals for the boys’ competition were Pinecrest 78, Richmond 42 and Hoke 37.
The Patriot girls took first-place finishes in four of the five field events. That included Brook Daniels in the discus, Hannah Hensley in the long jump and high jump and Candice Seagraves in the triple jump.
The Patriots piled up points in the distance events. Ashley Brock won the 800-meter run, Katana Lemelin took the 1,600 and Jenna Woronoff was first in the 3,200. The 3,200 meter relay quartet also came in first.
Ceci Weibert took the 100-meter hurdles for the Patriots and teammate Abby Snyder was first in the 300 hurdles.
Maurice Ervin grabbed firsts for the Patriot boys in the high jump and long jump while Dylan Gaffney was first in the shot put. Justin Harrington was another double winner for the Pats in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.
Also for the Patriot boys, Raphael Alston won the 400-meter dash and Landon Sherwood was first in the 3,200. The Patriot 400- and 3,200-meter relay teams also won their races.
The Scotland County boys and girls were undefeated in tri-meets this season. They will be the favorites when the two-day conference championship meet begins on Tuesday at Pinecrest with the 3,200-meter relay, the finals in all field events and the sprint preliminaries. The event concludes on Wednesday.
