Produce Box Subscriptions Continue
"Neighbors Feeding Neighbors” is the motto for Sandhills Farm to Table Cooperative, a new grassroots project directly connecting local households with fresh local produce and other local food products such as meats, eggs, honey, jams, etc. from area farms.
Sign-up is simple. Visit SandhillsFarm2Table.com or call (910) 949-2142. Questions about membership and the subscription program are answered on the Web site.
A membership costs $25. Members who wish to can subscribe to regular deliveries of a box with a variety of local fruits and vegetables at the peak of their season, and have a weekly or biweekly delivery option.
Another choice involves selecting the appropriate size box of produce: a $21 retail value for a standard box of produce or $38 retail value for a family box.
The standard box will feed approximately one to two average people. The family box is for three to four people, or avid produce eaters and preservers.
From the first week in May to the end of August, members will pick up boxes of fresh produce at various sites throughout Moore County, such as churches, day cares and businesses.
Members do not have to live in Moore County, but all deliveries will only be made in the county. The produce in the box will be valued at Farmers Market prices, and area farmers will get paid 70 percent of the retail price, versus the nationwide average of 19 cents per consumer food dollar spent.
Farmers, consumers and co-op staff are all member owners with a common mission of “meeting our local food needs with locally grown and produced food.”
