The gallery at Poplar Knight Spot will be filled with bluegrass music Saturday, March 20, when Shannon Whitworth brings her full band to Aberdeen.

After she entertains the crowd for the Rooster's Wife, Whitworth will play several stages at the Savannah Music Festival before moving on to Merlefest. The show this Saturday will begin at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 7. Tickets are available online at theroosterswife.org, or by calling (910) 944-7502.

Whitworth currently lives in the mountains of western North Carolina, where she has spent the last 10 years focusing on mountain, bluegrass and country music.

Her talent as a singer and songwriter enabled her to spend the last four years touring the United States with a band she co-founded, The Biscuit Burners.

On clawhammer banjo and guitar Whitworth's compositions contributed depth to the band's material and have helped her gain respect as a truly talented singer and songwriter.

Her first solo release, "No Expectations," features 10 of Whitworth's most recent compositions accompanied by an all-star cast of musicians.

Whitworth is currently touring with an all-star cast of musicians: John Stickley on guitar and mandolin, Matthew Smith on pedal steel and dobro, Seth Kauffman on drums and Josh Haddix on bass.

The Rooster's Wife is a nonprofit association created to support the arts in Moore County with an emphasis on performances for all ages to enjoy. The gallery of Poplar Knight Spot is located at 114 Knight St. in downtown Aberdeen.
