As twin sisters, North Moore seniors Shana and Samantha Morgan have experienced much of their lives together. They plan to extend their volleyball careers together as well.
The duo recently signed to play for Sandhills Community College’s third-year volleyball program beginning in the fall.
“We are excited to have Shana and Samantha joining our program,” said second-year Sandhills head coach Alicia Hill. “Both were leaders on and off the court for North Moore and the type of players we are looking for to help build our program.”
Hill said she’s planning to use both players as hitters next season.
“Their positive altitudes and eagerness to learn are going to be keys next fall,” she said.
As high school seniors, the Morgans helped North Moore to a 14-7 overall record and a third-place finish in the Yadkin Valley 1A Conference. Shana played middle hitter for coach Melissa Powers’ squad, while Samantha was an outside hitter.
“Shana was a great leader and always had a positive attitude no matter if she was on or off the court,” Powers said. “Samantha was a very strong hitter who got more and more consistent as the year went on, adding a variety of shots to her game. She was also a great leader but led mostly by doing instead of saying, which is also effective.
“I really enjoyed coaching both of them. They are a lot of fun to be around and possess very positive attitudes. I depended on them a lot to keep the team strong and the intensity up.”
Sandhills finished second in its conference last season with an overall record of 7-10.
Hill also recently added Richmond Senior High setter Michelle Brown to the program, on top of signing Pinecrest’s Paige Horne several weeks back.
