More to the Netting Issue

Recreational fishermen need to protest!

On March 7, Scott Mooneyham wrote an editorial about gill nets used by commercial fishermen killing turtles. This is just one of the problems we have with nets of all kinds inshore.

We now have a saltwater license, which is a good idea. The problem is you buy a license and can’t catch or keep enough fish to eat. The state keeps raising the size and creel limit on recreational fishermen while commercial fishermen kill them by the thousands.

We are the only state from Virginia to Texas that allows inside netting. When you pull a shrimp net you kill every small fish that the net catches.

We will never do anything about this as long as Marc Basnight is running the state. Mr. Blake or Mr. Boles should ask him about this.
