Looking for a chance to join the madness known as the NCAA men's basketball championship?
Well, the Boys and Girls Club of the Sandhills has four tickets to hoops -heaven - the 2010 men's title game in Indianapolis - up for grabs as part of its March Madness 2010 Championship raffle.
The club will raffle off 400 tickets at $100 each. One winner will receive four tickets to the NCAA men's basketball championship game April 5 in Indianapolis. They will also get four seats on a private aircraft from Southern Pines to Indianapolis round trip, along with two hotel rooms in Indianapolis and limousine service to and from the title game.
The drawing for the winning ticket is expected to be held about March 29. Ticket sales will likely end March 25.
Ticket sales have been a little slower this year, said Kim Madrigall, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club. She suspects that is partly because of the down year the North Carolina Tar Heels had after winning it all in Detroit last year, and because everyone was waiting to see how the tournament shakes out before buying tickets.
"Basketball is big, and there are plenty of fans in this area," she said. "Ticket sales should pick up once the tournament gets under way."
First round games for the tournament will be held Thursday and Friday at various sites across the United States. Six ACC teams, including Duke, the No. 1 seed in the South, are among the field of 64 that will need to win six games to capture the title.
Proceeds from the fundraiser go to the Boys and Girls Club of the Sandhills, which serves more than 300 children daily at the Southern Pines and Aberdeen sites. Local contributions and special fundraising provide 75 percent of the funding for the Boys and Girls Club.
This is the second year for the raffle. Last year's raffle raised $24,000.
Ron Myers, of Pinehurst, won last year's raffle. He gave the four tickets to his mother, Frances, and her three friends - Johnny Cutshaw, J.C. Young and Dr. David Williams. All four are longtime North Carolina Tar Heel fans.
North Carolina defeated Michigan State 89-72 in last year's title game. A record crowd of nearly 73,000 fans attended the game.
Michigan State is the No. 5 seed in the Midwest this year. North Carolina is not in the field this season.
This year, in addition to the grand prize drawing, three pairs of tickets to the recent ACC tournament were also raffled off. Winners of those tickets are still eligible for the grand prize.
Walmart is sponsoring this year's raffle.
