Southern Pines police have arrested a Pinehurst man and charged him with common law robbery, larceny and possession of stolen goods.
Michael Ryan Culbreth, 25, of Pinehurst was arrested in connection with an investigation of a robbery that was reported to police on Saturday.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:21 p.m. at the First Bank located at 205 S.E. Broad Street, according to a press release from the police department.
The victim reported she was at the ATM when a vehicle pulled to the curb and the suspect got out, concealed his face and ran toward her. She fled the scene and called police. She gave a detailed description of the suspect and his vehicle to police and they were able to locate both after a search of the area.
Culbreth appeared before a Moore County magistrate and was remanded to the Moore County Jail under $100,000 secured bond pending a Thursday appearance in Moore County District Court.

SPPD!!!! Hurry, make your presence known AGAIN downtown! When you were downtown people were safer. You moved to the highway and forgot about it. There are plenty of you and we all know how nice the new police dept. is but you can't stay inside!!!!

This is yet more proof it was a mistake to move the PD out of downtown. Nobody robs ATM customers when the ATM is across the street from the police station. All it took was a handfull of people griping about the proposed architecture to get a majority(4-1) of the Council to abandon the park location and spend at least $1.2 million extra acquiring and developing the new site. Oh yeah, we'll still need to build another building somewhere we can get the much-needed additional public meeting space that got dropped when the PD was moved from the park site.
Below is a link to my statement on the issue back in April 2007. Note my mention of the recent robbery of First Bank back then.

@expatriate
The town does not get any of the money that comes from speeding tickets. The NC Constitution requires that proceeds from civil penalties be given to the public school system.

@expatriate You bashed this county already. Mind your own business where ever you are now and let us here in Moore County enjoy our peace and quiet! Good riddance and sorry people of whatever county you are residing in now - you have a very angry person on your hands. Good Luck!

Hum , the camera at the bank will tell the whole story. Right? Not sure what all this other talk is about, crime happens everywhere and lt gets worse with the bad economy, fact.. No matter where the police station is. However, I have known this person to be someone who earns a living not steals for it. Hope when he is cleared that also gets printed.
