Outstanding Column

As I read the Opinion section of The Pilot on March 3, I noticed a special column titled “Climate Change: Between Alarm and Denial Lies the Truth,” at the bottom of the page.

The headline intrigued me because I am accustomed to reading diatribes of extreme alarm or denial about this subject. As I read through the article I was impressed by the clearly defined possible points of view presented: Alarmist, Proponent, Skeptic and “Denialist.” The thoughtful definition and discussion of these varied views impressed me.

When I finished this excellent contribution to the climate change debate, I let my eye fall down to the italics that identified the writer. I was surprised and quite pleased to read that the informative column had been written by Andrew Soboeiro, a junior at Pinecrest High School.

I write to thank and compliment him for his piece, join him as a proponent of climate change and congratulate his parents and his teachers for his outstanding ability to think and to write.
