Managers Speak to League of Women Voters

The town managers of both Southern Pines and Pinehurst are speaking to the League of Women Voters of Moore County Tuesday, March 16.

Reagan Parsons, town manager of Southern Pines and Andy Wilkison, the manager of the Village of Pinehurst, will be addressing the League on the topic of long range planning. The event is a luncheon held at the Table on the Green Restaurant in Midland Country Club, 2205 Midland Drive (off N.C. 2) between Pinehurst and Southern Pines. Check-in time is 11:30 a.m., and the meeting will start at 11:45 a.m.

“The public is welcome, with a prior reservation,” says as spokesman.

Reagan D. Parsons has been the town manager of Southern Pines since 2004. He was born in New Lexington, Ohio. Parsons received his bachelor’s degree from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware in 1992. He was awarded his master’s degree in public administration from the University of Arizona in 1994. He was the first village administrator for Wintersville, Ohio, from 1994 to 1998. Also, he was the first city administrator of Pataskala, Ohio, from 1998 to 2004. He graduated from the UNC Municipal Administration Program 2005 as a credentialed manager recognized by International City and County Management Association (ICMA).

Parsons’ memberships include ICMA, NCCCMA, Southern Pines Rotary and the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club. His wife, Linda Parsons, serves as executive vice president of the Moore County Chamber of Commerce.

Andy Wilkison has been manager for Village of Pinehurst for22 years. Before coming to Pinehurst, he was the manager in Tryon for four years. He grew up in Shelby. Wilkison graduated from N.C. State University with a bachelor’s degree in political science, and from Appalachian State University with a master’s degree in political science. He also graduated from Municipal Administration School at the School of Government, UNC Chapel Hill, and the Center for Creative Leadership, Greensboro.

Wilkison is active in Moore County Summit and is also a member of the board of directors of the N.C. League of Municipalities and N.C. Resort Towns and Convention Cities Association. He is married to Cathy Wilkison, who is the librarian at Pinehurst Elementary, and the father of three, Sarah, 20, a junior at UNC Chapel Hill, Mary, 18, a freshman at UNC Chapel Hill, and Aaron, 16, Pinecrest.

Lunch may be reserved by calling Charlotte Gallagher at (910) 944-9611 at least by March 12. The total cost for the lunch is $12. A check, payable to LWVMC, is the preferred method of payment. As the meal is catered, ‘no-shows’ will still be required to pay.
