Witness Assists Police in Nabbing Break-In Suspect

A quick-thinking witness helped the Southern Pines police nab a suspect Thursday in a series of vehicle break-ins.

Zachary Austin Kundinger, 18, of Southern Pines, has been charged with seven counts of breaking and entering-motor vehicle and three counts of larceny after breaking and entering, according to a press release.

At around 1 a.m. Thursday, the Southern Pines Police Department received a report of a person seen breaking into vehicles in the 800 block of North Leak Street, according to the release. A witness observed the subject flee, notified the police department before giving chase on foot, according to the release.

The witness was able to catch the suspect and detain him until police arrived, according to the release.

Kundinger was jailed, with bail set at $10,000
