The Aberdeen Commissioners will hold its monthly meeting Monday at 6 p.m. in the Robert N. Page municipal building.
The board will hold a public hearing for a zoning code text amendment that would allow electronic gaming operations in highway commercial zoning districts with business hours between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. seven days a week.
Electronic gaming operations are businesses where gaming terminals are provided, and patrons can purchase time to play games with the potential to win merchandise or monetary prizes.
The board is scheduled to vote to amend the town ordinance to allow the gaming operations within the town limits and also adopt a privilege license tax for them.
The board is also scheduled to vote to amend the Aberdeen zoning code to address kennels, other animal-related facilities and explosives.

Just from my past experience with poker machines very few of them are there for people to win “prizes”. Most on the other hand are there to generate income for the store owner and the owner of the machine. I think this is a bad idea for Aberdeen.

Folks should drive south to Laurinburg where these gambling parlors are sprouting up like weeds! But hey... each service station is a gambling parlor with North Carolina State supported gambling. It appears the public wants this sort of thing. I guess when people finally realize they might as well be flushing their $$ down the toilet, they will stop visiting these places.
